I think all across the board all teams seems like have had a dip in quality of players/teams this year vs past
maybe 98/99 yrs are soft

The U.S. has been utterly dominant, but they're only up one. Russia has got to wake up eventually, and the U.S. is going to want to put the game to bed before that happens.

The smiling bum was skating with his head down all along. What should the other player do? Avoid him? The new tactics in hockey. You turtle and skate into other team's players so every hit on you is "dirty".

Dangerous was what the American was doing there.
[MOD] Syomin cut across him and extended his shoulder up into his head. If he just wanted to hit him he could have hit him shoulder to shoulder.

That player doesnt throw that headshot if he grows up in NA
Skating forward without changing pace or direction is not throwing anything. It seems a player begs for a penalty by skating head first into players if he grows up in Neat America.

Well, I have never seen before a player smiling after getting a hit to the head. Just weird. Looks like he sold it.

What do you want him to do? Do a jig? Syomin targeted the head and made direct contact in delivering the check, it doesn't matter what Jones did. In the IIHF standard that's a black and white 5 and game.

small undersized plays forward more than D and this guy is supposed to go top 10 ?
seriously
Great skater. Decision making - not so much. He'll improve.

Bad goal by Woll, but Hughes shouldn't have followed the puck carrier into the middle of the ice. His partner was obviously expecting to pick him up on the switch. Then the pass goes to the goal scorer in a lane Hughes should have had covered, and he's totally out of position.

You must be watching a different play than everyone else. He clearly threw his shoulder into Jones. It wasn't even subtle.

I agree that its penalty worthy. He should have control his skating. Although, it seems that hit wasnt that hard enough to get on the knees since he was laughing after.

You can't hit shoulder to shoulter if the player is skating bent down and it's shoulder is 2 feet below yours. Just watch the sequence and stp repeating mantras. He was skating without watching, bent down, then the moment he was getting his head up he realized there are other players around. "Extending" a shoulder is a reflex there. you don't expect a guy to be that stupid, when you realize he is going to skateright into you because he just doesn't see you you brace yourself. That's all there was about "extending". I am all for giving out matching minors in those situatons for a very long time now. The player getting punished under current ruling literally can't do a thing about it. He is actually getting hit by a guy who is just not looking. If you hut a guy without the puck head first it is still interference. Unintended or not.

Jones doesn't even have the puck, he isn't eligible to be hit.

He "literally" can't do a thing about it?

No, he can do a lot about it. Like not throw his shoulder into the head of another player. He "literally" has a number of options to avoid hitting another player in the head. His actions aren't forced there. He threw a dirty hit, and got punished. The end.

All he has to do is watch the replay, it couldn't have been more obvious.

What play did you even watch? Syomin cuts across the front of him and extends his shoulder up into his head. He could have hit him much differently, or not at all. He can do a lot about it, and there is no chance the player receiving the hit in the head is at fault.
