Since this is the last game of the round robin, the teams playing here will know what kind of QF matchup each possible scenario will give them. The level of effort shown may especially be interesting to see if Finland beats USA and Slovakia triumphs over Denmark.

I really hope Sweden plays to win. USA would be a scary team in the QF, yes, but if they do end up in the QF, then thats a sign that they have defensive holes, which Sweden have the players to expose.

Sweden really should lose this if winning means they have to play vs USA.

While I don't expect them to intentionally throw, I really doubt they would try their hardest if that was the case. It's difficult to "fake motivate" yourself.

Lol wish I could watch this instead of going out for New Years..

I'll be to drunk to watch the game, looking forward to read this thread tomorrow!

Looking purely in terms of the performance of both teams thus far, Sweden was more solid. However, considering the QF situation above, the Swedes might play to lose.

For me this game is litmus if we have any chance in qf...Based on what I saw now, it's one and out, but Bragin is a motivator big time, so who knows...Let's just watch the game

I don't know about that, it isn't like going the other route is a clear path to the finals as it means Canada in the SF.

Starting to mess around with effort and picking opponents seems like a recipe for disaster.

I mean I guess a potential US-Rus-Can path to gold is harder than a Slovakia-Can-US/Rus path would be but that would still be a tough SF/Final match and if you are scared of playing a US team that lost to Slovakia and Finland and needed an outdoor snowfest shoot-out win against Canada I am not sure you are winning anything anyways.

You can never count out the Russians, but I have to give the edge to Sweden. They look stronger on paper, they've been in better form this tournament so far, and as much as I hate to bring past results into it, it's hard to argue with Sweden's impressive round robin win streak.

With the Czech win Russia needs to win by 2 to take 1st place. Will be fun if Russia is up by 1 late. Hope Sweden's coach is smart enough to have figured out not to pull the goalie.

Is this true? The Swedes have a massive goal differential, higher than Russia's by seven goals. And that would be the tie-breaker in case of the Russian win, would it not?

The USA leads Finland 2-0 after the 1st period, and looks like they will have no trouble at all finishing the Finns off.

3 way tiebreaker is h2h points which would be 3 for all of RUS/CZE/SWE if Russia wins in regulation today. Then it moves to h2h goal differential. So goal differential in games between those 3 teams. Russia lost to the Czechs by 1, and the Czechs lost to Sweden by 2. So the Czechs are -1 and can't get 1st. If Russia wins by 2 then Russia is +1, and Sweden is Even.

People always talk about running up the score on the lesser teams but those goal differentials are almost certain to not come into play unless you are in a 3 way tie with one of those teams, otherwise it would take all 3 h2h games between the tied teams having the exact same score.

It would be crazy to see Russia end up first after all the posters(Even their own fans) ripping on them the entire tournament.
