i still don't think boqvist makes it to 14 but that would be a tremendous pick for the flyers if it happened.
"I talk about the middle: goaltending, defense, centers, they're a huge part of it. Centers can play the wing. You can never have enough. If you want to sit and project and say, well our middle is good for the next ten years, but we don't know that for certain," Hextall said.I would throw up in my mouth if that happened. Fine with him at 19, 14 is too early though.
Sounds like Boqvist is a potential faller. He’d be a player they could slowly develop for 3-4 years until someone gets too expensive. Possible replacement for Ghost if he’s too expensive after his deal is up.

This has been a pattern for the Flyers with their high selections when they take a forward. This draft does not have a lot of quality centers. Defensemen and wings it does have. Lundestrom is one of the five best middle ice players. He may be there at 14 but probably gone at 19.
Any recent thoughts about Martin Kaut?
He looks like a solid first round pick with good skills, hockey smarts and some size. He may lack some of the potential upside of a few of the guys we've been discussing (like Kravtsov, Denisenko and Berggen) but his floor looks pretty high for a guy in the mid-first round.
Button has him down at #47 on his list, but says he has "all the skill to be a top six winger who is capable of scoring and being a playmaker." He compares him to a T.J. Oshie type player.
Button's mock draft has him going at #21
McKenzie's scouts have him going at #16.
Mark Edwards likes him and has him at #18.
Our esteemed friend, Magua, has him at #14 on his list.
The heart "issue" at the combine caused concerns and, hopefully, has been fully checked-out by Flyers' staff. McKenzie's comment this week was very bullish (too bullish for a non-medical man?) on Kaut's status.
"Fear not, he now has a clean bill of health, which has been submitted to NHL Central Scouting and the 31 teams. Last week in Prague, Kaut underwent an ablation procedure to correct the issue, although after doing the procedure, the specialists maintained they don’t believe he actually had the condition that was initially diagnosed."
"In any case, doctors have signed off on full medical clearance and unrestricted activity for Kaut and this isn’t expected to affect his draft status."
So, Kaut had a heart ablation to fix a problem (suspected Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome?) that he didn't actually have. Interesting. Bill Meltzer has reported something similar out of the Czech Republic. He also reported that Kaut met with 14 teams at the combine and that he told a Czech paper that he "got the best feeling" from meetings with the Flyers and Rangers.
Assuming the medical questions are fully resolved, a first round that has the Flyers grabbing one of the high upside guys at #14 and Kaut at #19 would look pretty good.
Kaut seems like a Hextall pick. He is not ideal at 14, but I'd be very happy getting him at 19.
I feel like who he selects at 14 will dictate who he selects at 19.
The Flyers could actually do both. They have that many assets. Could move Simmonds for an actual player like Nino and then move Gudas for picks in the second. He could also move Hagg and then sign a UFA defenseman with all the cap space.I know its less exciting then acquiring a top 6 or top 4 player who can play now but I would like a scenario where Hextall trade 2 or 3 piece including Simmonds to stock pile draft picks in the 1st and 2nd round...with a projection of 6 pick in the first 2 rounds it would be incredible how deep our prospect pool would be.
Hextall is making me like year after year that style of team management.
BUT theres always the curiosity of seeing a Skinner...Nino...Pacio...and others in orange and black.
I'm torn up lol
I don't think Hextall cares about position, he already has a loaded prospect pool and doesn't know if they'll even be a spot for whomever he drafts in 3 years.
If Allison and Laczynski are in Lehigh in 2019-20, a RW might repeat juniors, depending on how the Simmonds deal and its aftermath goes down. If Ratcliffe is for real, if Laughton blossoms at LW . . . and we know center is crowded, they have four young defensemen and so on.
So I think Hextall will go with his targeted players and pretty much ignore position in the 1st round, after that, he's building organizational depth knowing that even if he's a great drafter, only 20% or so will make it to the NHL - so he's drafting for the Phantoms more than the Flyers.

Don't ruin the fantasy.I don't think he'll move any dmen before free agency starts, but especially not Hagg who was #4 on the depth chart in 17-18.
