Both great choices, but I still think Miller, from a pure athletic standpoint, is a bit ahead at the same stage.

I think that’s one of the things that helped Miller take his skating to the next level and learn a new position.
I'm still going to put Kreider right up there with him – after all, it's what helped him transition from playing multiple levels below the USNTDP to starring at BC.

Getting back to Miller, he might be the best pure athlete this team has drafted in my lifetime, not named Lundqvist, Leetch or Kovalev.

Before the draft I posted that Foudy, Miller and Dellandrea were going to go a lot higher than people would have thought. A lot of that has to do with how athletic the former two are. Usually you don't see a 3rd pair D who averaged under 14 minutes of ice time getting picked from USNDP in the 1st every year. Usually doesn't happen.

But there were some things that were off about the program last year, and that's putting it mildly. There were a number of guys that believed K'Andre had much higher upside because he can dominate games physically. You saw signs of that with his ability to shut down the neutral zone. I really like how active he is in the middle of the ice.

Watching him this year, the point totals look nice, and they’re generally a result of a good play, but man, he looks every bit the real deal in the neutral zone

The reach, speed, the ability to close that gap in a hurry is impressive. IMO a guy that does that very well is Vlasic. Not the most physical mind you, but from a positional hockey standpoint, it's being in the right place at the right time.

I watched the entire game posted above and that was one of the most non-de script 4 point games I have seen. I am not saying he wasn't good but it wasn't a 4 point game of a guy dominating college hockey. He made some good plays showed some skill but there were also plays where he was standing still and a goal was scored. So I think he still needs some work to do on his over all game. My guess is at least 1 more year.
He got those Fake Pionk Points.

I know what you mean, though.

I didnt see him play very much last year but the knock on Special K was turnovers. Not this year. Very exciting to see this version in action.

Is that excluding Shesty from the list?
Nope. I rate goalie prospects very conservatively. And I also believe Shestyorkin is a little overhyped by us Rangers fans, as most goalie prospects are. I still have him in my top 5, but at #4 or #5. Depends on if we count Pionk or DeAngelo.

Miller back on the first power play unit. Was the man back on a 2 on 1 against, a different Wisconsin player got back to pressure the puck carrier and Miller broke up the pass across then reached around the Michigan St player along the boards to poke the puck away and to a team mate before the other guy could get to it. Wisconsin went back down the ice and scored while I started typing and missed the middle part of the play but there was only one assist credited on the goal and Miller didn’t get a point on it, so I guess it got turned over and regained somewhere on the way

If this second Wisconsin power play is what’s going to happen going forward, Granato changed the forwards and kept the defensemen the same from the first unit, so Kalnuk(spelling is probably off, I think there’s a ‘y’ in there somewhere) and Miller played the full 2 minutes

On another power play, Miller had a good rush/zone entry and started to drive to the net with speed but didn’t have the angle to try to cut in on the defenseman so he curled off to establish possession, and almost a full minute later he snuck into the lower part of the circle and one timed (not like a whole wind up slap shot, but more of a stick already on the ice and sending the puck on its way) a pass from behind the net that the goalie made a nice glove save on. Then Granato changed the defense pair after the puck was frozen so I guess that weird change in the quoted post was a one time thing

At even strength when the puck is on the right side of the ice, Miller is calling for a cross ice pass (even when it’s down lower in the zone) like 90% of the time, the kid’s confidence is limitless. He also made a good play along the boards to pinch and create a board battle and win the board battle and got the puck toward the net which kept the play alive for another 30 seconds.

And as I was typing this Miller broke up a pass in the defensive zone, then broke up another one when the puck bounced to a Michigan St player and got it to a forward going the other way, joined the rush down the LW side, got the puck back and took a shot that ticked off the very top-end corner of the goalies right pad to prevent a goal with like 3 seconds left.

First periods over, Wisconsin is up 1-0, Wisconsin also up in shots 19-4(!!!)

Update: Miller got an assist on this one! Also had 7 shots attempts (next closest was 5), 4 of those on net (tied for game lead) in the first

Miller just came within inches of scoring a goal almost exactly like that one from last weekend, but sent it juuust wide on the far side this time. Then he made a really ballsy play with Michigan players passed him in the neutral zone to stop and reach to break up a pass to keep possession in the offensive zone, then made an ill advised pinch after a long shift that didn’t result in anything bad happening, but that’s one of those things he’ll need to make a smarter decision doing going forward. Having a hell of a game so far though

My computer threw a fit and I missed the second half of the second period, there wasn’t a change in scoring so I doubt I’m going to go back and watch it (I’m going to watch Rangers OT instead), but according to the stat sheet Miller is up to 11 shot attempts so far
