2018 NHL Draft – NHL Central Scouting’s Final Rankings – Combined
Round 7
I always combine the NHL Central Scouting’s Rankings so I can make some sense out of them – nothing fancy; for the first two rounds – the average rankings of four of the top ranking providers (Recrutes, McKeens, Future Considerations and Bob McKenzie); for the remaining rounds - 8 or 9 European skaters and 3 or 4 goalies per round.
The rankings confirm to tiers which seem to reappear each year.
1-23 (or so) – Most rankings will have most of the same players, just in a slightly different order and the outliers will still most likely still be ranked in the first round.
24-50 (or so) – There will be a significantly higher variation between rankings as well as significantly more outliers. Since the differentiation between prospects is significantly less in this group than the first group, it is not unusual for one ranking organization to have one prospect at 25 and the next ranking organization to have the prospect at 50 or much closer to it. However, you can still tell the rankers are picking from the same prospect pool as the majority of prospects are likely to appear on most lists.
Beyond 50 – Free for all - hard to even tell if the ranking organizations are picking from the same hat.
Here are the prospects found in Central Scouting’s Round 7 with my rankings alongside.
I have also listed the ten prospects that I have ranked highest that did not make even the 7th round by Central Scouting. I suspect most people’s ten prospects missed list would be substantially different. Finally, I have listed the three prospects that I have not ranked to date that most likely will be included in my final rankings.
