2018 IHWC to be hosted by Denmark

Congratulations! I was supporting Denmark in this round, you guys really deserve to host the World Championship!

I don't support their decision, the tickets will be much more expensive than in Riga which means less fans. Congrats though.

I agree, next year they should hold it in Bolivia to ensure the tickets are cheap enough for everyone to go.

Purchasing power parity not even once.

Yeah, obviously. I'd rather go to a game with more fans watching live, than pay more for seeing my team play in front of empty seats.

I'm not afraid of Denmark's level of prices in general, just don't screw it up like Finland and Sweden (in the latest games, not earlier) with ticket prices. Outside of that possibility, I think it's really great to have it in Denmark. :handclap: Hopefully I can be there myself, as our home games it wasn't possible due to Finland's games costing like 300€ for solid seats.

There does not seem to be any correlation between ticket prices and attendance. I would imagine it is most expensive when it's hosted in countries like Canada, Switzerland and Sweden.

Note how Latvia does not rank very high, so much for playing in front of empty seats.

What happens if Denmark gets relegated in the 2017 tournament?

The team above Denmark would get relegated instead. Same thing last year when Belarus was close to get "relegated" last season –*Slovenia would get relegated instead

Here's the press release:
The Danish bid got 95 votes and won against the bid from Riga, Latvia, which earned 12 votes from the IIHF member national associations. The proposed dates are 4-20 May 2018.

The next three IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships were awarded earlier to Prague and Ostrava (Czech Republic) in 2015; to Moscow and St. Petersburg (Russia) in 2016; and a co-hosted event in Cologne (Germany) and Paris (France) in 2017.
Copenhagen's under construction Royal Arena will be the main venue, while the secondary venue will be Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning.

I might actually think of the possibility of going. Never been to Denmark.

At least I speak Danish already.. I just put a large hot potato into my mouth and speak Swedish.

Ticket prices mean little. Riga's greediness screwed itself last time. Everyone thought it would be their big payday. Hotels jacked up their prices to ridiculous amounts, the cost of beer and food went up, and people stayed away in great numbers. Some fan clubs were actually chartering flights in and out after every game because it was cheaper than staying there. It was still a good time, and the important games were well attended, but the no-name team games were nearly empty, even when tickets went down to 10 Lats (or was it 5?), unlike Minsk this year.

While I'd have loved to see Riga get it again, Denmark deserves a first one, and they obviously had the better plan and more local support. Riga also has no real need for a new area, and with Dinamo purchasing Arena Riga, it's all the less likely one would be built in the near future. Perhaps they can do another temp arena (maybe outdoors at Mezaparks if that's ever rebuilt as promised for many years).

Woooooooooooooooooooooo!

And they're already building a new arena, which is right in my back alley!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Finally!!!!

Lets show the World what we are capable off in terms of organisation of such a big event. I hope it will be a big success and a very important moment for hockey-Denmark to open the eyes of the general public. Lets see if this generates more willing local government always favourizing football and handball in the past. Lets see those ice rinks shoot up like weed the next few years. It could be the boost we need so much.

I think the big question most people have in their minds is, at what level will the Danish NT be in 4 years? How many players in NHL, will the current ones still be there and in what form, will there be new ones etc. In my opinion it would be crucial to get as much as possible in the team but that is of course out of your hands.

I cant see it in worse shape than now to be honest. Off course I can not see into the future, but Frans Nielsen will be 34 at that time and he is the oldest of our guys in NA. There will always be the insecurity of injuries, but besides that, our near future looks brighter than just a few years ago. I am not to worried about what league the Danish players are in though, it is more the mental state of which the players are in that scares me. Year after year we see them underperform against nations that we now should beat 7 out of 10 times, but still fails to win against.

Of new players in the near future will be Nikolaj Ehlers, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Sonny Hertzberg, Kristoffer Lauridsen and many more that have done well at the junior level in both Sweden, NA and WJC, so I'm not worried about that.
