I think LA would want good prospects with cost controlled low salaries to help them going forward in FA. I would tender an offer that included a second next year, Guhle, Rodrigues. LA probably would not bite but it would be a decent opening bid to try and work something out.

I am all for offering up Guhle+2+ for Carter. Carter is turning 34, so the cost should not be TOO high. A good future top 4 D and a 2nd is a pretty good start.

He was pretty candid when asked about the four first rounders and the deadline. Said he would never say they wouldn’t include them in a deal but didn’t envision moving them for rentals. A young player that could be a part of the team would be more the play. Said he knows the team isn’t one top player away from being in the elite team group right now. Said they have guys in Roch they think will come in and contribute in the second half.

This is the exact answer I want to hear. Dahlin is 18. Give me four first round prospect shots to enter the league when he’s 21-23. That’s not a window...that’s a whole missing wall.
This guy Botts, is gonna turn himself into a top 5 GM in the league .

Jeff Carter's s not coming here. He's in the driver's seat with LA, and I don't see a reason why he'd come here. He's got cups. He's got accolades. He's got a f***ing g sweet house in Hermosa Beach. That dude will just retire if he's traded.

I look at that and all I see is the big Scandella problem that I hope gets solved in trade. If he ever plays over Pilut Housley looses all goodwill he’s attained with me.

Can't fit his cap hit into the team structure. Why would you want to add Carter? Why not add someone who is a cheap rental on an expiring contract (Brassard) or a younger player who can be part of things long term?

Carter is a bad move.

Exactly. A very bad move. But but the name Carter is so enticing! :sarcasm:

We should definitely trade guys that might matter in 2020 for Jeff Carter in 2018. 2016 Stanley Cup here we come.
Who seriously needs Jeff Carter?
We have enough bad contracts.
He is old and slow like they used to play 8 years ago when the Kings model was legit

Girgensons and Larsson aren't going to block the Rochester guys, unless maybe you include Malone in that group. None of Nylander, Smith, or Olofsson will be checking line FWs. Pominville and Elie will be gone, and maybe Rodrigues or Wilson get traded. I'd like to hope Sobotka gets traded, but that's only an option if Asplund tears it up, but Asplund probably stays in Rochester regardless next season. Of course, if Skinner goes that's another spot...but we don't want to plan for that.
I think you cannot trade Sobotka.
He is a substraction to any value you sent the other way hence you have to pay someone to take him.
(same for Berglund (mostly because of his contract).
If you use assets to make them go away well I guess management won't do it after just acquiring them.
I thought they would be bad but not as bad as they have been so far.
Especially the offensive side, I thought at least Berglund could provide something.

Buffalo Sabres trade Patrik Berglund and Matt Hunwick to the Anaheim Ducks for Ryan Kesler.

Buffalo Sabres have a surplus of Defenseman on the left side (Dahlin, McCabe, Scandella, Beaulieu, Pilut) to be able to trade Matt Hunwick. Patrik Berglund is suspended. They could use a number two center after Jack Eichel.

Anaheim Ducks have a number two center in Adam Henrique after Ryan Getzlaf. They could use left handed shot forwards because Silfverberg, Perry, Rakell all shoot right which is why they acquired Aberg. They could use a left handed shot defensemen as well because Manson, Montour, and Larsson all shoot right as well as Fowler is injured and Schenn did not work out.

The cap is about the same going both ways with at 6/7 Million.

Why? I don’t see it. Hunwick I believe can stay down in Rochester indefinitely.

Berglund’s status is in limbo and could possibly end up being terminated.

Kesler is a cap dump.

I’d look to move Scandella this offseason. He doesn’t bring leadership at all, or anything on the ice. Give me Bogosians leadership over him any day.

I think Scandella was gonna be moved regardless. Wouldn't surprise me if its this season if we can get defense back healthy. He's taken a huge step backwards. He was one of those guys this past off season I had in the "untouchable" because we couldn't possibly replace his role categories. Now I'm fine with moving on.

I’d like to move Scandella as well... at the same time, look at how nice it is to finally have defensive depth...

Dahlin/Bogosian/Ristolainen/Scandella carries us most of the night tonight... Beaulieu was out early, and Tennyson is... Tennyson.

The nice part is, even with McCabe/Pilut/Beaulieu/Nelson all out, were still able to keep Guhle & Borgen in Rochester.

Hunwick could be an improvement on Tennyson in terms of a 9th defenseman.

But you can never have too many defensemen, that’s what worries me about moving a guy like Scandella.

Sabres are a Center and top 4 RHD away from a 2010 Blackhawk esque roster. The middle 6 and bottom pairing will come from Rochester and the system. Plus having 4 1sts is going to restock nicely.
