if JFK is indeed the #1 centerman prospect, and he is projected as a 2nd line C, the Bruins need to draft a top notch centerman asap.
This season was the perfect occasion.

Unless they acquire one through a trade....Krejci will not last 5 more years....maybe Bergie will.

I find the D pool much more impressive....

Hopefully those prospects will succeed, but I think we should tank for a lottery pick center when Krejci and Bergeron get older.

Safe to say that Carlo and McAvoy have impressed. I can't compare any of our picks with Pasta, the guy is a superstar and should have been a top 3 pick. Drafting kids is hard!

I'd argue the drafting can be very simple if you have the right set of eyes scouting . I actually think many fans here could draft better than the Bruins brass very easily

Pastrnak was the 20th forward taken in 2014, and so far is looking like a top-3 F from that draft.
McAvoy was the 4th D taken last year, and while it's obviously early, he's looked the best out of all of them, including the two we directly chose him over in Chychrun and Fabbro.
Carlo is already a top-4 D only 2 years removed from being a second-rounder, and is so far 1 of only 2 players to win a legitimate role with their team from that second round.

Their scouting is much better than fans'. Just because some fans fell in love with Barzal and Connor, despite there being nothing so far showing they're any better than DeBrusk/Senyshyn, doesn't mean fans are smarter than the scouts.

Not all fans. Some fans here have a better eye than Bruins FO. They watch and evaluate just like the Bruins. Our FO is employed bc they were good players or son of a rich owner

Okay, so then let's do this. Since I have no idea who you're talking about, unless you mean Kirk, Dom, Bill and Reed (who I'd hardly consider just fans), go look up or ask them who they would have chosen at #25 in 2014, #37 in 2015 and #14 in 2016.

So far, the Bruins are looking 3/3 with their choices being best there. We'll compare them to the picks of whoever you're talking about (I'll even give you the benefit of hindsight), and if the fans' choices are better (spoiler: they're not), I'll concede.

Maybe you could run the Bruins FO?

Definitely not. I was on board with Kempe in 2014, and had no idea who Pastrnak was when they picked him. Personally I would have gone with White and Boeser (who I had seen with Team USA) over Debrusk/Senyshyn, but I also would have gone with Fabbro in '16, and I hated the Frederic pick when they made it.

My point is, if you're going to say fans would be better than the scouts, you might want to actually be able to back it up with facts. So far, they've picked what looks to be the BPA at multiple slots over the last few years. Even if they do end up missing on some others, that's still a pretty solid feat.

I dont see why this is such a threatening opinion to some. I don't write as well as many here and I've just giving my opinion of what I see here on the boards on prospect analysis. I think many fans here have excellent opinions are players the bruins should draft.

It's not a threatening opinion, and you aren't wrong that there are fans here with excellent opinions with sometimes better insight into certain players than the front office has.

But when you say things like "I actually think many fans here could draft better than the Bruins brass very easily" and "Our FO is employed bc they were good players or son of a rich owner," it undermines everything you're saying. They might not be perfect on every pick, but they've had an excellent track-record over the last few years and absolutely have their jobs because they're good at them. Certain fans might occasionally call a pick better than the front office, but the facts show in most cases lately there hasn't been a better choice than the one the Bruins front office made.

Fans also tend to have the benefit of only seeing a select set of players a fair amount of times. It's not that hard to pick out who the best players from the WHL might be, in the order of how good they'll be. It gets much, much harder when you're comparing those players to NCAA players to guys coming out of random Czech leagues. That's not something fans making educated guesses on message boards have to deal with, while the front office actually does.

you`d lose that bet 8 days a week. I watch a ton of Junior hockey, and while there are things I watch on the ice that I think many scouts watch, what I don`t have is the instinct and foresight that most of them have to envision what a player will be like in 3-4 years or 2-3 years, I would be hired then fired before the end of my first month.

Some of it is luck, sometimes lightning strikes when nobody expects it to but if you think for a minute that it is "simple" is just incorrect.

I`ve had a few scouts sitting in close proximity of my tix at the Mooseheads game, trust me, the area around them looks like an absolute cluster of paperwork, looks like they have made their seat their apartment for a month or so there`s just so much info they are trying to gather

Read this, then I`ll see how you feel after, let me know if this sounds "simple";)

Sweeney struggling to make a trade. I would agree that his early decisions as GM have not turned out very well. Rinaldo trade has a huge black mark. The Jimmy Hayes disaster. Liles and Stempniak deals for 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th rd draft picks didn't turn out, plus Lucic and Hamilton returns will be in the future to see. His Free agent signings have been okay but not great.

So you can see why Sweeney is gun shy. He needs to win a deal. Hopefully soon.

Doesn't need a win, but would be nice if he didn't lose one badly.

I have a good bit of trust in the Bruins amateur scouts. On the other hand I have real concerns on their pro scouting side.

I don't want to see the Bruins make a trade, because I don't have faith in their ability to execute one well.

And now we are in the stupid season (FA), where smart people race each other to see who can make the most ridiculously bad FA signing

man, does this sum up the current state of the Bruins well...

You just get the sense that this organization seriously loves almost every single one of their recent draft picks, and the idea of trading them isn’t even on the table in most instances.

This management team just seems scared... only word I can come up with. Scared to fail, scared to make a deal, scared to make the wrong move.

I saw that and it seems Ryan forgot the Bruins last draft and that he was one of the few that thought he was a good pick at the time. More media types have come around to this thinking.

Or 2015.

I too thought the Bruins would get a C in the 1st round when I saw Thomas and Poehling still there and the run of D seemed to thin out the available. Studnicka seems to have a similar scouting report to Thomas with comparable numbers so would he say the same if they chose Thomas in the 1st? And Poehling seems to be similar to Frederic.

It seems like the media wants a new whipping boy now that Toronto is finally on the right track.

I don't understand that article. The author implies Sweeney can't make deals, but then points out how he's smart for not making the deals that were available to him or making a move where he'd get fleeced or lose the trade? If that's what being gun-shy is, keep it up!

The Rinaldo one was the only actual bad move he's made. Liles and Stempniak didn't work out, but you can't entirely blame that on him...both played close to the level they were already playing at prior to coming in, so that's on the entire team.

I'll never understand why people still think the Hayes move was bad, let alone a disaster. Florida just let a 30G center walk to get Reilly Smith off their team, and it always appears to be forgotten that the entire point of that trade was moving Savard's contract...take a look at what people have moved to get rid of similar contracts like Clarkson and Horton. That trade was at worst a wash for Sweeney.

We'll have to see what happens with all the 2015 picks, but IMO it's much too early to say his decisions haven't turned out well.

What's wrong with the sentence you quoted? They probably do love all of their picks; there's been no reason not to love them so far. Pastrnak has turned out great, McAvoy looks like a stud, Carlo looks good...why would they want to move them if they feel the trend will continue? Moving your picks before you actually have a good indication of what they'll be is exactly the wrong move for a franchise rebuilding through the draft.
