Considering the interest in the Beanpot thread, and Massachusetts as 10 DI college programs, including the most successful program in the State University system (sorry Amherst Bball its been awhile), and New England has 20 its probably appropriate to have a College Hockey Thread.
You can talk about any of the 60 programs in College Hockey or DII if you really want. But I would assume BU, BC, UML, Providence etc would get most of the attention.

I'm a big fan of college hockey. I have BU season tix and have seen games at PC, BC and Harvard this year.

$5 dollar tickets. Great crowds, the band playing and kids running around in their team sweaters... Not to mention terrific hockey.

Grew up in the Lowell Area, growing up we went to Riverhawks (and Loch Monsters, RIP) games regularly, now as a student at RIT I go to basically all the games on weekends.
Atlantic Hockey is a bit sad, the only teams with any sort of profile are Air Force, Army and Holy Cross.
I did go to the RIT/BC game last year at the Conte, and oh boy was that interesting.

The more I watch BU, the more I like Clayton Keller. Smart, skilled player who is very sound defensively. He is exactly the prospect Boston's system lacking now. He will be a 1C as long as Coyotes don't mishandle him, which is something they tend to do. I hate the goddamned coyotes, they turned down Hamilton for the 3rd (Coach want it done but their GM who fell in love with Strome only to get fired after a year) and leaving Marner in this division, whom I'm very sure will be a big disaster to us in next decade. Imagine Marner and Keller in their top 2 lines, basically two Patrick Kanes. It is gonna be crazy.

I'm here to make sure NU gets the most attention.

We do love mediocrity around here.:sarcasm:

They'd get more attention if they could show some success in NCAA Frozen Four tournament or Beanpot. Their problem seems to be scouting and recruiting.

Oh, I am definitely aware.

Scouting isn't the issue, but rather the ability the land the big recruits. It's quite difficult considering that two perennial powers are down the road. NU took a step back here when Coach Cronin left for the NHL resulting in Gaudreau (yes that one) and John Gillies de-committing right before their freshman season and playing at BC and PC respectively.

Madigan is doing a good job with that right now as NU has a handful of players in the top-10 for scoring in the nation. They are just incredibly top-heavy as a team. Next season, Cayden Primeau is expecting to come in and take over goaltending duties. He's projected to have a great career, but some believe that he might need one more year in the USHL. We'll see.

I've grown up watching hockey east play and now that I'm a student at Umaine, I would HIGHLY suggest coming to watch a game against a quality hockey east opponent. I missed the UNH games this year because I was on the road with my club team but still, the atmosphere is great. And nothing beating watching McAvoy dance around every Umaine defender on a shift by shift basis.

Speaking of UNH, if they beat BC today likely BC will have to win the HE tournament to get into the National tournament, because its current rank is 14, so a drop to 15, with the autobids in the weaker conferences, would lead to a DNQ.
edit: BC is playing UVM, which is a tougher draw.
UVM is fighting for their postseason life also, ranked at 19.

Atte Tolvanen's shutout streak comes to an end after Minnesota St poured three past him in the first. He had five shutouts in a row and was up to 335 minutes without allowing a goal.

So the streak comes to a close just about 35 minutes short of the all time record held by... Blaine Lacher.

Here's a quick interview CHN did with the former Bs goalie where he talks about his college days and his streak:

RIT/Air Force was a tough physical game. RIT lost 4-2 but really 3-2 b/c the last goal was Empty Net (and one RIT goal was called back, "High Stick"). It was interesting, it was the first time a goalie actually responded to a student section. On his way out he banged his stick against the glass in front of RITs "Corner Crew" and directed some fist pumps etc towards them.
Surprised to see both BC/UVM and BU/UNH end in ties.
That gives UML a chance to get the second seed with a win at UMass, which lets be honest, is likely, and a BU loss/tie at UNH.

UMass-Lowell is looking for the season sweep over Amherst tonight.
You would think the "flagship" would be good at something right?

Up in Madison watching Wisconsin play Michigan. 3-3 after 2 periods. Badgers have a big trip to Minnesota coming up next week with First Place in the Big Ten up for grabs.

Wisconsin's D is pretty much a dumpster fire, but they are fun to watch in the offensive end, and Trent Frederic is a stud freshman...

UNH had a crushing loss tonight, up 3-1 then came crashing down and lost 8-4.
UML swept UMA
Northeastern beat UCONN
BC tied again, dropping out of an at-large bid spot.
RIT got stifled by Air Force, the only team in AH that has a shot at and at-large bid in Tournament, ranked 17 in the country.

Aston-reese of northeastern needs some attention after the college season. Third trick of the season and leading in points iirc, all as an undrafted senior.

Updated PWR really shows BC to be fragile. They can not afford to stumble in the HE tourney as their out of conference record isn't good.

Air Force playing in the Atlantic is ridiculous.
