2017 Football Thread III: End of an Eli

QB or trade down. Only two options that make any sense.

I liked Shurmur's press conference. I know talk is cheap, but it's a good start and better than the alternative.

Giants should trade down to 5/6 with the Broncos or Jets, they can pick up an additional 2nd rounder (at least) and more.. They would have 3 picks in the top 37 in the draft for the holes they have, AND they can likely get at least one of Rosen, Darnold, Mayfield. its a win win win

Josh Allen made himself some money today. Seriously impressive. Love the toughness to go back out after a rough first two series, too.

Kyle Lauletta is this year’s Jimmy G.

While I'd like to move back to add picks if we're going QB, which I think we should, I don't see it happening. If anything I think the going with Eli talk is a smokescreen to get the Browns to trade up from 4 to lock in their QB and Barkley at 1&2. If we move to 6 it's likely 3 of the top 4 QB's are gone (if Indy trades back) and I for one don't want to take the last guy standing to be our future franchise QB.

For all the talk of how many holes we need to fill and the need for more picks I would so much rather get the QB now and fill the holes in the next year or two rather than chase a QB forever, who knows when we'll be picking 2 again.

Lmfao the senior bowl game is like playing on beginner mode. The game is virtually meaningless for QB evaluation.

Yeah, I can’t take you seriously with that comment. That’s some next level newbie commentary.

The Senior Bowl and the practices mean a lot. Up and down the roster. It’s been that way for years.

Kirk Cousin was one of the bigger examples of guys that really helped their stock. Redskins Home For a guy like Allen, who played with zero talent this year, it’s a huge chance for him to show if he can play. We have 2016 tape of him that’s amazing and 2017 tape of him that is inconsistent. When he’s had talent, he’s performed.

So this game was incredibly important to someone like him. And also guys like Lauletta. Tanner Lee could’ve shown that the lack of receiving talent he had in college was largely an issue for him. However, he was dreadful and probably won’t be drafted at this point.

The practices matter. The game, for QBs, is virtually meaningless. But maybe the guy who’s accusing others of being a newbie should be able to differentiate.

So someone who said Allen made themselves money in the game is out of their depths of what truly is going on.

That's simply not true and I'm surprised that you're even continuing with this nonsense. The game is not meaningless and it never has been. For someone that had a great college career like Mayfield? Much less meaningful. For someone like Allen who had a down year stats-wise or for small college players who haven't gotten much exposure? Extremely meaningful.

Talk about being out of their depths. I often question whether you even watch college football or understand the draft process, and I think this absurd line of thinking from you solidified it for me.

It's hard to fathom someone being more wrong than you are, here.

there’s no blitzes and limited coverage schemes, therefore a basic ass QB like Charlie Frye can win Senior Bowl MVP. You truly have no idea how the Senior Bowl even works. Former nfl scouts laughing on social media at people excited about Allen’s Senior Bowl game performance “proving” anything

I like how you never responded to the Allen post contradicting your theory that his WR lead to his poor comp %

Im done trying to educate you and don’t wanna further hi jack the thread

This is such a hot take that I still can't touch it a full day later.

The only thing you can get out of the SB is form, footwork, mechanics , ect. Good scouts will pick out obvious flaws.

Considering Allen's struggles in 2017, him showing off the bold was critical. And all of that is critical for small school guys playing on a bigger state. NYR is simply wrong when saying it's unimportant. It's the hottest of takes. It's not generally a make or break (although for someone like Tanner Lee, it was his last shot at showing . . . anything), but it can definitely aid in eliminating question marks.

No one is saying it's a be all, end all but it is absolutely an important evaluation tool.

My friend that’s a huge Skins fan is having a meltdown right now. I like Smith, but think Kirk would’ve been the better option if they just paid the dude a few years ago

I dunno, Cousins is so erratic and such a mediocre player. I’d take Smith and I think he’s going to be cheaper.

It’s hilarious because I call him medioKirk, but FIVE years of Alex Smith? I mean this is good for us because our defenses are literally going to annihilate them, but I do feel bad for Skins fans

I really don't see how this is anything close to a downgrade. I like Alex Smith quite a bit. The Skins need a stable QB. Kirk Cousins was anything but. Dude was the most erratic player around.

I don't dislike Smith either, but I think he did get propped up by his offense a bit this year considering he had some ridiculous dynamic playmakers. Overall, I think that contract extension + the 2nd rounder & Fuller ends up as a net loss for the Skins. It's actually funny how this makes the RG3 trade seem even worse now in hindsight.

I mean, I sure hope so. I hope it’s a big loss for them. I just see him acting as a stabilizing force for them behind center.
