Woah, Lily falls even further. I'm not sure why everyone is so down on him.

Those Euro rankings are weird. You would think Vesalainen would have fallen more than Liljegren. Thought Heiskanen had a pretty meh WJC and he's actually moved up in more recent rankings.

Confusing to me, based on what I have seen other places.

He had mono and has only played 16 games this season. Perhaps being loaned out of the SHL may have had an impact too. All I know is that I really liked him at the U18s last year.

All of Finland had a meh WJC. Prior to that he had been playing well in big minutes in Liiga. I am not sure I would take him before Liljegren, but I do consider him a solid option around 10 overall.

Yeah the mono definitely has had a big impact. He's looked much more sluggish than last year since coming back, BUT IMO his play last year was so exceptional and he's shown flashes of that enough this year, despite the mono, that he doesn't deserve the drop at all. I'd still take him 3rd overall without a second thought. Personally Hischier has convinced me that he's the real deal and can carry a team, so he'd be my first overall followed by Patrick and then Lily. Luckily if Lily falls a bit we're more likely to get him if Hakan still believes in him, and I'll trust him more than anyone on Lily. His skating is so very good and he has exactly the kind of shot that made Lidstrom so successful. He's not going to be firing a cannon like Weber but he gets pucks on net, is excellent at finding lanes and generates tips, rebounds and goals. On top of this he's not one of these offensive D who has tremendous holes in his defensive game. He occasionally tries too hard and it can lead to turnovers (which can in turn lead to odd man rushes), but besides that the guy does it all and is going to be a REALLY good NHL defenseman. I'm a huge fan. (Disclaimer: watching SHL games from the states is really tough so this is based moreso on highlights and others' opinions than I'd like, though I've made an effort to watch streams and such whenever I've been able to)

This is such an underrated fact. Mono wreaks havoc on your body and your mind and Lilly came back about as soon as possible. It could've knocked him out for a couple more months. I think he's only really now getting back into the swing of things but that also could be because his ice time is so high in tier 2. I hope we take him.

Pretty sure Logan Couture was talked about going top 3 before his draft season when he contracted mono and despite his ppg, scouts were kind of down on him too.

I think this is spot on, especially in today's NHL. In most instances, consistently getting shots through to the net is far more important than shot velocity for defensemen.

Agreed, it makes me really appreciate Liljegren's game as a Wings fan having watched Lidstrom for so long. Beyond that he has the potential to drop down into the high slot and fire a quick wrister the way Kronwall used to. Plus his skating is good enough that he can be back in position and defending if necessary even if he's overextended.

This Zach Gallant kid got my attention. 0 goals last year, now he was the OHL player of the month in December. Amazing to see a player get some confidence and take off like that. He's a been 55 or 60 % on face-offs too. I don't know about his skating but he's looking like a good pick for someone maybe 50 to 75 range. Could be a great pick up if we pick up some extra picks at the deadline.

I agree. I think it's a case of exposure. Not seeing Liljegren play because of mono, and having him miss out on the U20 didn't lower his ranking so much as others simply showing their worth.

He's still projects a #1/2 two way defenseman. I'd be more worried if he sustained a concussion or a break, but it was just mono.

I believe with our current standings we should aim at Necas at the draft. I like the kid.

That's also my gut feeling.

I also like the kid. Some Czech stat guy had some advanced scoring chance data from Czech team only, and Necas didn't set the world on fire offensively, but he had best "chances For/against" -ratio. And that chances against did catch on my eye, number was team-low.

Skilled two-way natural playmakin center. Exactly what we need on forward side.

Personally am a huge fan of Nico Hischier. Wish we would commit to the tank so we could get a better chance at grabbing this kid. Honestly believe he'll be just a cut below McDavid; he has no flaws in his game and has super high hockey IQ combined with a fantastic work ethic. He took some time adjusting to the NA ice but he's been on an absolute tear recently.

I think he will be a 70-80pt #1C in the NHL with great 2 way play and a few seasons at or around 90 pts. He's similar to Zetterberg in a lot of ways; not as cerebral but has better speed.

I too am a fan of Nico, but I don't think he'll be THAT good.

I could easily support taking Necas, especially if we are outside the top five (which it looks like we will be). I thought he looked pretty good at the WJC and think that stylistically he helps fill an organizational hole (is a good match for the organization). It will take some time to get him to Detroit, but I do think he has the makings of a good center.

Yeah, I like him quite a lot. Unfortunately he'll almost certainly be off the board by the time we draft. Too bad, I do think he'll be a very good #1C in the NHL.

I'm just a really big fan of Nico; like him more than any of the recent Mooseheads (MacKinnon, Drouin, etc.). I think he will be really, really good in the NHL, mainly because he thinks the game at a really high level. A more realistic target for where we'll probably draft is Necas, as others have said. Just don't think he has star #1C potential, but will still probably be a good center, perhaps able to play #1C at some point in his career. At this point it's impossible to predict anyways.

Liljegren would be great if he drops; Vilardi is interesting too but his skating is worrying. Vilardi could probably be a franchise-level talent if his skating was elite. If he can improve it to the level that Draisaitl improved his, he'll be a great #1C.

A good 2nd-3rd round target would be Ivan Chekhovich, I think. Been doing well in the Q and isn't too high profile, so we might be able to grab him later in the draft, too. He's got great IQ and slick hands.
