I have a hard time seeing anyone we draft winding up in the NHL next season.
Agreed. If they keep the pick, it seems the more proven course to send the player back if they don't make a strong enough showing in camp. (Unless of course it's Makar, who'd be at Dev Camp, then off to NCAA play.)
Granted, if someone does wow them over the summer and into training camp, well, hey, that'd be great. But I don't expect it.
Nah, you get him to forgo his college commitment and sign an ELC then send him to Rochester. I'm sure that AJHL->AHL jump will do him just fine
Trade the pick.
This.
If we hadn't fired Murray I'd put the odds he'd have traded this pick for immediate defensive help at 100%
But I can already see the year end "it's a process...this is only our first year...wanted to evaluate what we have here" press conference as our team slinks forward to another nonplayoff year and we slump ever closer to death
Unless there's an under 22 top pairing d-man available....keep it
What do you mean "trade the pick?" When has any team traded a top 8 pick for a player in the past 10 years? It doesn't happen because there are never any serious offers.
Draft slogan: Hurt for a star? Draft Cale Makar.
I vote trade the pick. We're not picking anyone at 8 that either fills a need or helps us any time soon. We'd easily be better off getting a player for it.
Schneider to the Devils.
Carter to the Blue Jackets.
J. Staal to the Hurricanes.
I don't see any team trading a top 3 potential defenseman on an ELC for #8 overall. Unless that becomes available, keep the pick. Even at 8 we're still getting a good young player cost controlled for years to come.
It's a toss up in rankings for everyone after the top 2 anyways. #8 isn't that far off from #3 in this draft.
Who ever they pick I just want to make sure they develop in JR. Murray loves signing and rushing guys to the AHL.
Murrays not our GM though.
