I have a hard time seeing anyone we draft winding up in the NHL next season.

Same. If Buff luck continues and the Sabres drop in position I'd look at trading down for immediate help and take Hague late.

Agreed. If they keep the pick, it seems the more proven course to send the player back if they don't make a strong enough showing in camp. (Unless of course it's Makar, who'd be at Dev Camp, then off to NCAA play.)

Granted, if someone does wow them over the summer and into training camp, well, hey, that'd be great. But I don't expect it.

You can write Heiskanen to Dallas in pen. So basically Makar would have to get past Colorado, Vancouver, Arizona and Las Vegas.

I think it's still possible, there's some pretty talented forwards available. I'm not too worried.

Timothy Liljegren is still ranked at 12 on McKenzies list, so he's still on the radar as well.

What do you mean "trade the pick?" When has any team traded a top 8 pick for a player in the past 10 years? It doesn't happen because there are never any serious offers.

I don't see any team trading a top 3 potential defenseman on an ELC for #8 overall. Unless that becomes available, keep the pick.

Even at 8 we're still getting a good young player cost controlled for years to come.

It's a toss up in rankings for everyone after the top 2 anyways. #8 isn't that far off from #3 in this draft.

Schneider didn't get traded for a top 8 pick. So two times in 10+ years doesn't inspire me to be able to say "just trade the pick" likes it's easy. And by the way, every team who traded the pick lost those deals.

I vote who gives a ****. This franchise will never be anything more than a laughingstock. **** this ****** team in this third tier joke of a league. I ****ing quit.

Related: I happen to quite like Cody Glass if he drops to 8th. If Makar and Heiskanen are gone, there isn't a dman in that tier. Glass would be great. Anything but Rasmussen really would be fine. But whichever of Glass or Tippett is available. I think the 2nd tier ends at 8. So, it really could have been worse.
