Seems to me it's the reality of a mediocre team. The wins/losses may not have been mapped out exactly where you thought they'd be, but I doubt anyone is blown away by their record or the idea that their playoff spot is seriously threatened again.

They can pull out some great wins now and then but can't sustain it. I remember last year after dominant wins against Chicago, Dallas there was the feeling of "see, they can be a playoff team" but the consistency wasn't there either. Even bottom tier teams get hot stretches and pull off some good games and unlikely wins.

I don't know that the Jekyll/Hyde showings of the last couple years are an indication of coaching, leadership etc or it's just what you largely get from a mediocre team with flaws. They can put it all together now and then, there's enough talent to take advantage of a team that shows up like a mess but can't rely on that for any period of time. Can't handle the surges of a team that is playing them well. Scoring is coming around now that the forwards are healthy but the lack of depth did some damage to their record this far and the wheels are now coming off defensively. Level of goaltending has dropped a bit.

I think it's another year of hoping the teams around them stay banged up or fall apart rather than having the ability to take control of their own fate.

82 full games. = 164 possible points for every single team.

Montreal: 60 points out of 90 possible. 67%: 74 available
Toronto: 48 points out of 82 possible. 58%: 82 available
Ottawa: 48 points out of 82 possible. 58%: 82 available
Boston: 51 points out of 94 possible. 54%: 70 available
Florida: 48 points out of 90 possible. 53%: 74 available
Tampa Bay: 46 points out of 90 possible. 51%: 74 available
Detroit: 44 points out of 88 possible. 50%: 76 available
Buffalo: 43 points out of 86 possible. 50%: 78 available

As of now, the Bruins at this rate, AT best are a wild card. And given the track record of this team, this team currently struggles down the stretch instead of improving.

All I hope, there are no short-sighted moves. Nor expectations that this team is better than they are.

Does anyone think there will be 2 or 3 call ups from Prov in the next month or so to replace the no offensive guys, as well as a player or two from college that might kick start the team ?

That would be a lot to integrate into the team, and have Clode trust and play.

Dropping that much makes sense as the previous projection was assuming the Bruins would bank 2 points today instead of zero. The 2 losses to Brooklyn negate the positive of beating Columbus twice. 21 home games and they only have 20 points banked as all 11 losses have been in regulation.

I understand the math of it, but math in statistics attempting to translate real life results of a sports league with a huge variety of factors doesn't always work out.

The bruins could totally go either way when it's all said and done and the results depend on the outcomes of dozens of games to go between dozens of other teams

This is the point, we can calculate all day long and it means zero. I remember the Leafs being a "shoe in" for a playoff spot a couple of years ago. They went off the cliff as usual - who knows which teams will be awful down the stretch, could be the Bruins, but it could even be the Habs. Anything is possible. Not optimistic but certainly haven't given up.

Thank God Sweeney stuck to his guns and wouldn't guarantee Jimmy Vesey a spot on the roster without him earning it. I mean, if they had how would Claude have been able to get the likes of Blidh, Nash, Schaller, and Beleskey the minutes they so desperately warrant? I mean, why qualify for the playoffs the easy way when you can grind it out and simply hope you make it? :naughty:

I see frozen four is april 6 - 8.
College players be too little too late?

I have posted that before. The tournament starts 2 weeks earlier, so even late march is very late.

In terms of the teams that affect the B's

BU is in the tourney, only question is will they get a #1 seed

Harvard is in, and could make a run at #1 seed

Minnesota is in the tournament barring a complete collapse

Notre Dame is very much on the buble. They'd be in in the tourney was today, although maybe the last seed

BC is in the tournament, but a little shaky after this weekend

Is that true?

Of course not. But give it time. If it gets legs, Lonnie will add it to his list of Lonnie Truths, along with Seguin wasn't criticized for partying before the trade and no one complained about Kessel being soft when he was here.

I was thinking most of the b's top prospects would get to the frzn 4, but is it bjork who plays for nd, so he might be available.

Is that true?

Oh no clue. It was one of the narratives floated out here after he didn't sign here though, so I was having some fun with it. I think it originated with Nashville offering him that if he signed before their window closed, but maybe some of the insiders who've heard the stories can elaborate if that really was one of his demands to sign here.

So, Jimmy Vesey is the only missing piece on this team? I mean, with him they qualify for the playoffs "the easy way", right?

They need 45 points in 35 games :dunno: and that would get them to 97.

They have 20 home games :help: and 15 on the road.

So I figure they need to win about 14 at home and 8 on the road and picking up some loser points along the way.

Certainly they can not afford to go to California and get 0 points like last year but in any event they have to improve at home or it won't matter.

Nah. Just having some laughs, since this season has been pretty tough to be a fan of this team. I can say that he'd look pretty good here either way though. Shame they couldn't lock it down.

What can I say? You have to laugh at this point, don't you? 2 years running no playoffs, and this year isn't shaping up to break that streak at this point. It's either laugh or cry, and my wife makes fun of me if I cry...:naughty:

My post had nothing to do with what kind of players we need and everything to do with you making **** up out of thin air. Over your head, as usual.

Buyers or sellers? 13 games until the trade deadline and the B's currently sit at 52 points with 48 games.

In these 13 games, any thoughts on how many points they need to be buyers?

On that list of 13 games they have Penguins twice, Blackhawks, Capitals, Canadians and the Western Teams of LA, Ducks and San Jose.

They also have Toronto and Tampa, both fighting for playoff spots.

Lastly, they have Vancouver, Dallas and Detroit.

I would speculate they need to at least be on a 90 point pace. Not that will get them in the playoffs but if they are playing at that level the Management will believe that with a push in the remainder of the season the playoffs would be possible if they were on that pace at the trade deadline.

And that means they will need about 16 points in this 13 game stretch, a tall order considering this schedule.

But to be the best, a team needs to beat the best:)
