If there was any doubt Edmundson was starting on the top pairing with Pietrangelo, there isn't now.

Vince Dunn I fully expect to make the team now.

Have to assume both Berglund and Sanford undergoing the same surgery. Usually a labral tear occurs after the first dislocation, and if you want to prevent further instability and recurrent dislocations you have to strap that baby back down. Of course it also means a super long recovery. 12 weeks no weight, then PT for the rest to get it strong again. Really unfortunate but definitely moves to prevent further problems in the future. Luckily we can absorb things like this, but damn, can't push the depth too hard before the damn season starts.

Maybe now people will finally recognize Eddy as the top pairing defender he has always been! :sarcasm:

But seriously, as much flak as JBow catches from some around here and in the media, losing him is still a big loss. Hope Ed is up to the task of playing top pairing minutes and hope Dunn/Walman are both ready for the next step. Silver lining: this injury may be for the best in the long run as it won't damage our playoff chances too badly (injury is early and not too severe) and gives the young guns an opportunity to show what they've got. Thing that worries me most is JBows mobility and skating when he comes back. Better not rush it like he did with that groin injury.

Well hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come this season...

Sucks for Sanford, as most of his season is gone. By the time he gets back, he may need to go to the AHL to knock off the rust and then the season will be close to over. So hopefully he can do that, spend next summer bulking up with another 5 pounds of muscle at least, and then make a push again for the team next camp. But competition will be just as high. He's still young though so not the worst case scenario.

Bouwmeester hopefully won't be out long and the defense will remain competent. And Berglund gets back a couple months into the season. So we just need to hope we don't have any more until then.

Yes, BluesTank for Andrei Svechnikov or Brady Tkachuk, but, eh how it will goes if our 2018 1st round pick is top10, 'cus we trade it in Lehterä trade for Philly.
Any idea what is condition for it. I know its protected if top10 pick, but what we've to give back for Philly if it is top10?

If it's top 10 then the pick just gets pushed to 2019.

Pretty accurate analysis. My son playing football had a partial dislocation, played the rest of the season then we went to the orthopedic surgeon. Labral tear and rotator cuff damage. Repaired, then almost six months of physical therapy and strengthening the muscles in the shoulder to protect against further injury. Full recovery and no issues playing the next four years, but it took a fairly long time to recover before he was released to play again.

Did anyone really see Sanford making the roster as a full time player this season? There are a lot of scraps of ice time to be fought for between a lot of young guys. This just thins the herd a little bit.

Not as a full time player, but the Berglund injury opened up a spot that will almost certainly be filled by Barbashev and then Sanford would likely have been the first call up after that.

The issue here isn't that it hurts our roster this season, it's that it hurts his development. If we were really wanting him at centre this season, then this is a pretty big blow for him.

Looks like our AHL guys will be starting the regular season if things continue at this rate.
