Both centers would obviously be deserving no question. I just hope it doesn't force Reinhart and Nurse on the team over say a Damon Severson, Matt Dumba or Cody Ceci who get overlooked in terms of recognition league wide but are more proven.

I'm sure their NHL experience will help them out, but either way I'd like to see Dumba and RNH recreate some of their Red Deer Rebels chemistry. Actually, it'll be really interesting to see what other former junior (or even WJC) teammates they can draw on for this tournament (Monahan/Ceci, Hamilton/Strome...).

I just realized our guys might have heart in it after all. Because not wanting to lose for some u23 team.

But i wouldn't be that surprised if that team can win some game in the tournament.

Having the opening game against NA u23 makes things bit worse I think. It might not feel like real world cup from the start. Seeing my NT is always great ,specially when most of NHL players are in. But it would be so much better if it was Finland - Slovakia or Finland - Switzerland. Like 1000 times better. I hope I can find interest when the game starts.

I'm surprised the Canada-USA game is their second of the opening round. You'd think that would be the finale.

The two joke teams really make this a mystery. It's not often you enter a tournament thinking "will these teams even care?"

Couturier is inside the age bracket for the Young Gunz. It's basically what everyone thought, with any North American player age 23 or under during the tournament being eligible.

Also, pretty funny that a significant part of Canadian Olympic management group will now be GM of a team that Canada could face in this event.

Friedman already reported months ago that Hockey Canada and USA Hockey were colluding on what would be an appropriate split for the team. Just another little perk of this frankenstein the NHL has cooked up. I would imagine a 40-60 split between USA-Canada (10 Americans on a roster of 25) which wouldn't be that far from legitimate at the moment, and some American players might emerge in the NHL this season.

Even the players are laughing about this nonsense from their interviews at the media tour, can you imagine what people around the World will think of this tournament.

When you watch the Olympics, IIHF World Championship, the passion, the magic of the tournament is the fans, people from all over the World united to watch this beautiful game.

No one in any other country in the World even knows this exists. What an embarassement this is on all levels.

And it's right after the epicentre of what sport is about, competing for your country at the Olympics. Even archery in Rio will have more passion then what we'll witness in this exhibition money collector of a tournament.

Penciling in a guy who may or may not have a successful rookie season (Gostisbehere) over a proven young player (Ceci) to fit some quota is a good example of one of the reasons this team is such a stupid idea.

Ceci is a better player right now, and there is no reason to expect Gostisbehere to make the team over Ceci at the moment other than him being given preferential treatment given his nationality. Now Gostisbehere could make the team on his own merit if he has a surprisingly strong rookie season in Philadelphia, but these kinds of considerations (picking one player over another for the very same team due to nationality) clearly do not belong in a tournament that is being presented as an international tournament.
