Mexico definitely seems to be a surprise for promotion. They haven't played above Division III since 2012, and their best place since then has been third place the past two years, so good on them for earning promotion. Israel has also done well considering the only other time they've played in a World Junior tournament none of the current players were born (1997). Interesting to see how the rest of the teams play out though, who gets a medal and so forth, and good to see that there should be some competitive matches still to play, which can be an issue at this level sometimes.

Interesting fact the IIHF's write-up noted: the only other two times Mexico won in Division III was when they hosted the tournament, 2005 and 2011. At least after 2005 they stayed in Division II for five years, but only lasted for the 2012 tournament before being relegated again. See how they handle it next year.

tough finish for Turkey

really competitive entertaining tournament! With Turkey finishing 6th it will be interesting to wait and see who registers for next year, they could have to play at a lower level if more countries like Israel decide to join the U20's.
