yep, by being a generalized character. the main purpose of tretyak have always been a wish to keep his post at all costs to the detriment of anything else.

To be honest I don't exactly understand your argumentation, it sounds more like a slogan to me.

In my opinion Tretyak does his bureaucratic job well: NHL players are keen to represent NT, no issues with player insurances, "FOK"s are actively being constructed. He could be blamed for the selection of the coach though, but in 2014 there were no other candidates (and we are a bit short of those now too). Besides, I doubt that Rotenberg (or who is next in line after Tretyak?) will do all of that better.

The problem is our defense system and poor coaching by Znarok. Our defense just can't handle any power forwards who can really control the puck. We need quality defensemen! How many times does our team have to lose matches like this to finally understand: we need a solid defensive core!

Maybe we will have a solid defensive core in a few seasons. We need not only a physically robust one, but also defenders who can move the puck.

What annoys me about Znarok is his reluctance to let younger guys play. Would it kill him to give Paigin a shot. Or Gavrikov? Even Provorov would have been an interesting addition. I bet he will be good enough to get minutes in the NHL next season. So why not here?

Even if the kids fail, the result would be no worse than what we got here. I just find Russian coaching to be too conservative and not forward-thinking enough. The correct mentality should be about developing winning teams in the future, and not just 'win now'.

Freaking Sannikov. Kill me now.

Leave OV out next time. That guy just cant win.

Funny thing this world championship. When Ovechkin wins it (3 times in his career), it's a ****** 2nd tier championship and it doesn't count.

When he loses, it's because he can't win and he's a choker or something. Nonsense.

I hope you don't mean Yakupov.

Definitely not Yakupov.

I would have liked to get glimpses of: Gusev, Golyshev, Tryamkin, Provorov, Gavrikov and Paigin. A team with these guys would definitely not have been boring. And I think they would have played fine.

I want to see these guys getting acclimatized and gaining confidence for future events. If you lose with these guys, at least this is something they can learn from.

Yeah, Ovechkin has won enough of these. He and Kuznetsov were clearly freaking tired and should have just sat out. But I admire them for being so fiercely loyal.

This is drifting to the "Bandu het'!, Bandu het'!" territory.

Seriously, what is your argument? Tretiak tries to save his position? That sure is a bad quality. LOL

Greetings from Norway

Sad we lost today but i fully agreed With the poster talking about what happen after the first 10 min. Even if we had a 1-0 lead i felt something was wrong...after the Finns got their first powerplay i was like all the energy left the team..quit shocking to see even on home ice with all the fans in their back.

Some toughts :

Ovi is and has never been a leader. I love him but just let him play his game and give him a good center. Do not build the team around him and let him be the leader. He is not. He is not what Malkin was for the team in 2014. A great leader where you just felt the whole team was behind him. Ovi is a goal scorer and and funny guy. Let him play his play

Pavel Datsiuk was not bad but the age is catching up on him - i want to see younger guys entering the NT. (belive me i am the biggest Pavel fan but like myself he is getting older and is slowing down)

Kutnetskov was bad...very bad and looked very slow. He has all the talent in the world but looked to med like he was empty for energy

And just to get this out of my brain - why the helle does not russian shoot the puck ???
Orlov and one i dont remember trying to be cute and goes for the extra pass...i cant belive it. And their D almost never shot the puck where someone goes in front of the net
Are russian hockey player not tought to shot the puck? This is how modern hockey is played...i feel the russian are fare behind other teams on this matter

A question for russians in here :

I want to se a Coach change as other wants but i would want to see a canadien Coach
I read sometimes ago the Mike Keanan could get a russian Passport.
If that is so or not - what is the chance of seeing a Canadian or a swedish trainer for their NT ?
I mean think about it - there are trainer who would die for the oppurtinity to get all this talent together and work a a machine.
And i do belive it would be good for the russian NT team to get somone with new perspective - hey its 2016.

We cant contiune with this ****. Something needs to change , our young players (and we have very promising players coming in the years a head ) needs to get the chance and we need new thinking

Best regards

I know they're disappointed now but they better show up for the bronze medal game. The USA are no pushovers.

I'm sure losing to the USA on home ice would be considered a disaster.

Gusev - probably yes, although at LW he could be only Mozyakin's replacement. Golyshev was injured, Gavrikov too, Provorov is busy now. I'd prefer Bereglazov instead of Paygin, agree on Tryamkin though.

Ovi was the guy when they won in 2014.

Malkin was the guy when they won in 2012.

They should stop picking players after the first round of the playoffs IMO.

Did not know about the injuries, though I'm sure Provorov would have been able to make it.

The issue with Ovi is not that he is not as good as he used to, the actual issue is that while being not that good he still is better than most of the guys there.

Maybe you are right about this. Flying these NHLers to the WC almost always screws up the team's chemistry. And it is such a different style of hockey that the players rarely adjust well.

Worst of all, in spite of knowing this, Znarok insisted on giving Ovechkin the biggest minutes. I know Ovechkin is the team's best player, but it just wasn't working.

But did we have much of the chemistry before NHL-ers arrived?

I'm confident that Russia won't be as dead-legged and lifeless as Canada was today. Don't worry about us - if Canada goes out tomorrow and plays like that, they will get badly spanked.

i agree, just pick a full roster and let the team be. i understand if some guy has a 100 point season u may want to take advantage of that but that was not the case here.

I think Ovi can be forgiven if he sits out the future World Championships. He has done his duty.

Of course hopefully he is playing for a Stanley Cup next year.

bandu het? wtf is it? bendera's language? get out.
and my argument was stated above, the system can't and won't produce good quality players in numbers to be competitive in the best vs best tourneys. i'd welcome rotenberg for that matter. the question of being fired won't be of such importance to him as it to tretyak. he'll have more freedom and power in realizing his ideas.

I only read the last four pages.

I don't think the selections are bad. Russia has more talent than Finland for example even if they make several borderline selections.

I most certainly do not think it is the best players choking - Ovi for example.

I think it is just parity and RNG as well as - in this case and Sochi - the pressure of playing as a host. But mostly it is just RNG. They had the chances to win the game and Datsyuk fanning the empty netter for example is not for lack of talent - it is just RNG.

Win some lose some even if losing esp. to Finland lately seems to be a trend. In reality it has not been many games played between the two teams.

Finland has the young stars - Aho and Laine. I am jealous.
