MacDonald says there's an equitable group from about 20 to 40. If none that they like from the group above that falls, they may try to get two picks in that 20-player group.

Yeah, I get that. Like I posted later, it all depends who is there at 21 and how much they like him. Without knowing that, I'd be a bit surprised to see them move down, but it's not unreasonable to see it happen.

Maybe, but at that point, it's about what the Canes scouts think of the players. If they have a guy they LOVE at 21 and he's there, then picking up an extra pick to move down 6 spots isn't a good deal. If they don't have anyone they really like, then yes, it's a good deal. Look at last year. If someone had offered the Canes another 2nd round pick to move back a number of spots in the 2nd round, it would have looked like a pretty good deal at the time. We likely would have missed out on Aho had we done that though.

I'm not against moving down in a deal like that, particularly with how well the Canes have done in recent years with 2nd round picks, but it would depend a lot on which players are there and how the Canes feel about them.

Well, yeah. We're obviously not going to move down if there's a guy at #21 that we really, really like. If there's not, I'd much rather move down if our main targets are gone instead of having another Paradis-type situation. Grabbing more picks/assets is never a bad thing.

Well, we are discussing it before 1 player is even drafted and without knowing who the Canes like and don't like, so kinda hard to say "it's a pretty good deal" in a vacuum. I think we all agree. If there's someone there they like, they won't likely trade it. If the guys on their list that they like are gone and they think they can get a similar value at 27, then sure, why not. The problem might be though, is that at that point, TBL might not see the need to move up either, of course it would depend on who THEY like.

Yeah, but those aren't the only 2 options. Paradis was a bad pick, plain and simple. It wasn't like they took the guy who was 27th rank and took him at 21. He was a huge reach. I trust this management group to not do something like that, even if the guys they want at 21 are gone. If the main targets are gone, sure, move down if possible, but even if they are unable to move down, I don't see a Paradis type pick.

From what I have seen many teams in the 14-20 region think they will pick Bellows.

If the Canes are dead-set on Bellows then I'm predicting NJ will steal him. Shero will stroll by the Canes table, pull down his pants, and lay a full moon to Francis. On his butt cheeks will be written "#RememberAho"

Many think he has been unfairly picked apart after having so much hype as an exceptional status OHLer.

The only thing I like about Chychrun that our current group doesn't have is his penchant to lay out people. Plays mostly a safe game but he goes for a monster hit every now and then.

He's really good, but 1 - he's not a Hanifin level prospect, there are no Hanifin level D prospects this year and the talent difference from 4-15 (especially among the D) is pretty shallow.

I mean, it's possible that he's still there at #13, but it's also possible that I win megamillions.


I think the reason so many fans have soured on him is the same reason so many soured on Kessel in his draft year. Overexposure. Chychrun was on the radar as a sure thing top 3 pick this year for at least the past 2-3 years. Follow a guy long enough and the warts will start to show.
