DSJ hasn't lived up to the hype? Oh...

No what happened is the bigs never progressed like every other year under Gott and he still decided he didn't need to touch defense with a mile long pole.

I've seen him play this year and I haven't been impressed at all. He seems overrated.

The point is NC State was starting to progress under Gottfried, especially in the early years. They actually made the tournament for once. But they never could build on that. Last year was disappointing and then this year, there is no way that team should have 3 wins in conference, especially with someone as hyped up as DSJ.

The problem with getting an Izzo or Bennett type is that they aren't going to go to NCSU. Nobody like that will because the expectations, given that Duke and Carolina are right next door, are absolutely ridiculous.

I think the NCSU expectations thing is overblown. Here are Gott's stats on the 4 years that earned him an extension and raise.

2011–12 NC State 24–13 9–7 T–4th NCAA Sweet 16
2012–13 NC State 24–11 11–7 T–4th NCAA Second Round
2013–14 NC State 22–14 9–9 7th NCAA Second Round
2014–15 NC State 22–14 10–8 T–6th NCAA Sweet 16

So basically have a winning record in the ACC, schedule some cakewalks to get to 20 wins which will usually get you own the bubble, and be competitive against your rivals. That's your expectations.

Really, they should just be shooting for an "I'm willing to coach at NCSU and deal with all the ******** expectations" type.

I wouldn't want a coach that would back down from the "lofty" expectations of most fans: top 25 team, 1 or 2 wins a year against UNC/Duke, tourny appearances. That's not asking much for a program like NCSU.

Gott was expected to be a short term solution, and was, the last 2 years were just cluster****s. And **** anyone that booed him the other night, classless.

Archie Miller is the obvious candidate ... no?

He's the #1 target, but it sounds like he wants nothing to do with NCSU.

My wishlist: Miller, Gregg Marshall, Will Wade.

The timing just sucks with Yow on her way out, its going to be a mess.

Pretty much this. Those first four years were a great stretch for Gottfried, earned him an extension, and everyone was happy. The problem, which everyone in the media apparently forgets now, is the last two years have happened and the program is trending in the complete wrong direction with next year looking even worse than this one. But State will get criticized for unrealistic expectations because they're actively trying to fix the situation.

I'm thankful for Gottfried's time here, he brought us some of the best moments in recent history for the program and has handle the past couple months graciously. Hoping fans will show him some appreciation during the final two home games. But it's clearly time to make a change and I'm glad Yow is willing to take the risk to elevate the program.

We'll see how the next few weeks play out, obviously Miller or Marshall would be the homerun hires if Yow could pull either of them off. Wade is probably the more likely/realistic option and I'd be happy with him.

Yeah he's not being terminated because of his overall accomplishments in his time here. He is being fired because he has completely lost the locker room. I'm not sure what's going on behind the scenes but losing by 50+ points against a rival, then a run of some staggering loses against usually inferior teams is why he's being fired.

It doesn't help that some of his post game comments seem critical of the fans, he always has transfers, and none of his players seem to develop.

So I'll admit I don't really watch and College Basketball, but I'll keep track of the scores on occasion.
But uh, correct me if I'm wrong but.
Wake Forest seems to have a pretty good team this year no??

Compared to years past, yeah. That and I think it's safe to say Danny Manning is a much better coach than Jeff Bzedlik.

I still don't get the Gaudio firing beyond Bzdelik being BFFs with Wake's AD, especially when Gaudio had just guided a not great team to the 2nd round of the tournament. For all the complaining people do about country club atmospheres, this was a textbook example. You fire a coach with a 61-31 (27-21 in conference) record who had just taken your team to back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament and replace him with your buddy who's had a winning record as a head coach in exactly one place (Air Force) and over exactly 3 seasons of his career who winds up going 51-76 (17-51 in conference). The Manning hiring definitely seems to be working out for the Deacs - let's hope it continues, if for no other purpose than to make sure my wife doesn't have to deal with the simultaneous 1-2 punch of her Deacs stinking it up on the court and the Canes stinking it up on the ice.

Yeah I'm still scratching my head about that one too. That was a really stupid firing. They were ranked #1 at one point under Gaudio.

I actually went to a game at the Joel the first year Bzdelik was the coach, friend of mine was a senior at Wake that year, they lost to Presbyterian this night. The Deacons led once, the first two points of the game and trailed the rest of the way, losing by two on a turnover on the last possession.

Walking out that night I could see thought bubbles off the heads of the Deacon fans, 'Really? our AD fires a coach that takes us to the NCAA tournament two straight years and even has us ranked #1, for this?

I can still see the Buzz off billboards on I-40 in Winston-Salem, used to go there a lot for work.

The city of Greensboro twitter account gave Jim Boehiem a pretty good roast yesterday.

The City of Greensboro needs to shut the **** up.

Sorry, sensitive flowers. The Greensboro Coliseum is a great building, lots of history, great stuff, all that's fine. But Greensboro is a holdover from an older era, when North Carolina *was* the ACC. Those days are long gone. And Greensboro, as a city, is obviously not in the same league as NYC or Brooklyn or DC, on literally any level.

Very sensible post, devoid of emotion.

Doesn't compute in today's world.

Lose to Vandy three times in one season, jfc.

At least URI has a chance to play their way in tomorrow (they should be in regardless, but w/e). Would be cool to get two RI teams in the tournament for the first time in like forever.

Not sure we deserved a 4 seed, but if we win round 1, I like our chances to get to the 16.

The East bracket is loaded tho. Nova, Duke, Baylor, Florida, Virginia, SMU, Wisconsin, USCe
