he played with top end talent in chi town. those players carried him. he carried no one.

he didnt play with talented line mates in nashville and he sucked. period.

hes clueless. doesnt use his linemates well. has no vision. can't create nor can he possess.

he is what he is. a dumb, big, fast player with absolutely no idea what do when he arrives.

To be fair Pouliot was described exactly as you lay out above. Sometimes, if they can play with a couple of players who like to have the puck, they work it out. They compliment eachother.

I think Stalberg may be a good fit for MZA-Brassard honestly. Puck retrieval, don't be complicated, just get the puck to one of those guys and drive to the net. Rinse. Repeat.

as usual, your posts are well reasoned and logical. and factually correct. :handclap:

he does indeed drive well to the net, albeit at the wrong time, as thats the strongest part of his game. he isn't shy about taking it to the house. thats his game.

the rest of his game is substandard.

putting him with those 2 is a blackhole. he cannot shoot. he cannot do much really. mza brass line is fine with a guy who can shoot it. they need a finisher. thats certainly not FLUB.

the biggest difference with benny really was that he had a very, very good shot. he could and would bring it. he scored some goal scorer type goals.

FLUB does not.

It is not good that Stalberg was publicly discussed by AV with the reference that this is "his last kick at the can".

If Stalberg can come in and produce 15 goals and 30 points, that's a solid signing.

It's not all about the points either. He needs to contribute to puck possession. That's his calling card.

That's essentially 2013-2014 Benoit Pouliot production right there. I think that's a little high for Stalberg who would be playing 4th line and probably no PP time.

In that 2011-12 season, Kane and Toews were his two most common forward teammates. He scored 18G 39P at ES, not bad but hard to imagine him doing that with Dominic Moore and Glass/Fast.

He might be able to play the Pouloit role if he has an opp w Brass and Zucc. Similar mold. Fast. Big. Somewhat physical. Skilled. Not consistent.

They're pretty good comparables. Stalberg is faster and more athletic. Pouliot is more naturally talented/skilled.

I don't think Stalberg would even come close to scoring 40 ESP again even if you put him on Brass'/Step's wing.

I think he just had a good/flukey year that year.

I see him as a 10G-20P guy on the Rangers this year, definitely an upgrade over Glass at 4LW, though.

If they had the same cap hits, I would take Pouliot over Stalberg without thinking twice.

Not physical at all guys

One shift of one game is hardly credible evidence of his (Stalberg that is) being a physical player.

Breaking down that video clip--his first hit of the shift was decent but not a really a very hard hit. He then followed up on Kevin Bieksa who was gliding backwards and looked as if he didn't expect it--the aftermath of which we see Bieksa sailing into the boards awkwardly. He then sparred with Maxim Lapierre who is constantly sparring suchlike with anyone he (Lapierre that is) crosses paths with which gave the obviously incensed Bieksa the time he needed to track Stalberg down and start pummeling him.

All said it was a good shift for Stalberg but it was hardly anything extraordinary and not nearly enough proof that he is a physical player.

If I were to guess the Ducks are going to be the team coming out of the West this year. Putting partisanship aside if I had to pick a team as favorite to win the whole shebang this year it's them. They are also by far the toughest team in the league this year. They have plenty of size--some of the nastiest forwards in the league and several guys who can throw them. It starts with Getzlaf, Perry and Kesler--their three best forwards who are all big and nasty. Maroon runs shotgun for Perry and Getzlaf and he has an impressive fight list--AHL/NHL. He can hang with the toughest players in the league and he has some hockey skills as well. Chris Stewart, Bieksa, Despres and Stoner will all go--no problems. Tim Jackman is a goon and for good measure they have Brian McGrattan probably in the AHL.

Only problem for them is they will probably have to go through either Hawks or Kings who either

A. To fast for them to catch.
Or
B. Are as big and don't give a **** because it's their rivals and they can't beat them.

They're an incredibly fast team with size and depth, all of those guys can move and play a strong game along the walls. They can ice 2 lines that play like the Rangers, and 2 lines that play like the Kings, and have a very good defense that can move the puck.

They are not slow whatsoever, and play with a lot of confidence.

Problem with them is in goal, in the sense that its unproven, and they don't have a guy that's shown to steal a series.

You also have Bruce Boudreau who likes to play musical chairs in net.... they've iced 3 different starters in the last 3 playoffs.

That's their question mark.

They will need more of that and much more to overcome lousy coaching and middling goaltending. Hockey's biggest tease.

I have not really seen evidence of a big team not being able to "catch" a faster team in the playoffs. The Kings did not really have a very hard time "catching" the Rangers, did they?
