Speculation: 2015 - 2016 New York Rangers Roster Building Thread Part XXII

Should we be concerned that Skjei doesn't appear to be very effective in TC? Didn't watch much of the Packs playoffs but his numbers were really nothing to write home about and now he's been quiet in a tournament he should be dominant in. Lots of talk about how he's ready or will be this year, but I'm not sure what it's all based on. What am I missing? I get that he has a nice skill set, but why doesn't it appear to be accomplishing much?

Short preseason tournaments mean jack ****.

I'd expect an NHL level talent, or a player "ready" for the NHL to get some points or at least some positive reviews from those who are there. I'd say it doesn't mean very much, but I don't see how it means nothing that this kid people are ready to ship Staal out for can't make something happen in a tournament lower than AHL level hockey. And he didn't do much in the AHL playoffs last year either.

What I'm really asking is whether or not anybody saw him play the A playoffs all the way through or have been following TC somehow and see something encouraging that's not showing up in the numbers.

We're not necessarily shipping out Staal for Skjei. It's more so Skjei is a cheaper option if Staal is going to get stuck on the 3rd pair on the left side.

The key word in Tawnos' reply was "preseason".

Sean Bergenheim is still unsigned. Strong bottom 6 player who is pretty versatile why not give him a PTO? Couldn't hurt.

EDIT: Tyler Kennedy is available as well. Wouldn't mind either getting a look in camp.

Those guys suck at scoring, at least at this point in there careers. I mean unless they're pushing Tanner Glass out of the lineup, not sure why NYR would seek out those guys.

If there's any improvement to be made in the bottom 6, it should be more depth scoring IMO. And, eradicating the existance of Tanner Glass as a NYR.

Should've signed Semin on that deal MTL gave him, IMO.

We have Stoll, Stalberg, Lindberg, and Gibbons. If Glass isn't out of the lineup now, he never will be no matter who we bring in.

Now we've got one of the best PMD's in the league on the 3rd pair. These options just get worse and worse.

Since Keith Yandle's Ranger debut.

Staal TOI: 772.92
Yandle TOI: 763.04

5v5 OZS
Staal: 155
Yandle: 258

I think you're overstating/misrepresenting the difference in deployment between Staal and Yandle by giving them ridig definitions like 2nd pair and 3rd pairing when it's not as simple as that. As you can see, their TOI difference is less than 10 minutes and Yandle has more than 100 offensive zone starts @ 5v5.

Blame AV.

I do.

It doesn't matter. We SHOULD have a clear 2nd pair and a clear 3rd pair. Staal and Yandle splitting time is not a luxury we can afford. Either move one of them to the other side or deal one. This is a cap world. Both Chicago and Tampa's 3rd pairings are AHL garbage. They spend that money at more important spots.

Even if we do put both of them in the top 4, we probably still need to move an expensive contract to keep Yandle. Staal isn't what he used to be after the injuries and is worthless offensively. He has to be a candidate to get moved.

Skjei-Klein would be better than 90% of the ass rag 3rd pairs in the league anyway.

I think either Staal or G will be moved NEXT offseason. Because Yandle will already be resigned IMO.

I sure hope so. Yandle is something this franchise has coveted since Brian Leetch, and it would be absurd to let him walk.

With Boyle likely retiring, a loss of Yandle would leave us with possibly the worst D corps in the league offensively.

Yup. We missed out and we will regret it by years end, unfortunately.

NMCs, guys... NMCs

Start preparing for Yandle to not be a Rangers d-man come next season. I will not have Yandle become Stralman 2.0

Or, give me a good reason why Staal or G waive their NMC. I'm all ears, but it's going to have to take a lot to convince me.

You want Yandle here long-term? Say goodbye to Nash.

If they're asked, it's a good enough reason for them to actually do it.

Doubtful.

Maybe I'm naive, but I truly believe Staal or G would need to be absolutely forced away from this team to waive their NMCs. They've been career Rangers. They've set up lives here. They negotiate for that security for a reason.

I really, really don't see either of these guys waiving an NMC.

Girardi has his NMC till 2017.. he knows there is a possibility they will trade him at some point.. whether its 2016 trade deadline or a 1.5 later, it can happen.. rangers will make moves and try there best to move someone (nash included) to keep Yandle..
