I've been looking back at that draft a lot lately. It is pretty amazing how it has all worked out so far. Not only does it still amaze me just how many defensemen were in that draft, just look at how many are making big impacts in the league. Murray, Rielly, Lindholm, Trouba, Maatta, etc... I mean, that's only a few and combined that would be a respectable NHL defensive corps.
Yak may still work out for the Oil but I have to say the rate at which he is progressing still surprises me. They pick one of the aforementioned defensemen and I think they are in a much different spot in Edmonton right about now.
Still a few question marks with guys like Grigorenko and to some extent Hertl after his recent injury.
One day, though, I believe we will all look back at this draft and see the team that really won it to be Nashville, who didn't even pick in the first round. The Erat for Forsberg trade has to be one of the most embarassing trades ever. George McPhee and Ted Leonsis are going to have a lot of sleepless nights when that dude eventually breaks out as a star.
