Please, if I am not asking much, rename Zagreb to Medvescak or least write it as Med.Zagreb, because Zagreb is another hockey club....

Will the tournament be broadcast on TSN this year? Won't be the same without Paul Romanuk.

Definitely will, they broadcast all Hockey Canada events.

Won't be the same, he had a passion for the tournament that was unmatched, it's a special tournament with a special atmosphere in perhaps the World's most beautiful and unique arena, and his presence will sorely be missed.

Canada roster will not be strong this year.

There are less Canadian imports in NLA now because a lot of teams decided to sign Swedish players instead. Plus Genève has 6 good canadian players but they are already in the tournament

and now they have announced that Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Josh Holden had declined the invitation for personnal reasons.

Will be interesting to see how many players they can bring from elsewhere than NLA (DEL, EBEL, AHL) They have no choice for goalies since no import canadian goalies plays in NLA.

At first look here is what the roster look like for now :

Forwards

Byron Ritchie
Chuck Kobasew
Bud Holloway
Marc-Antoine Pouliot
Jeff Tambelinni
Ahren Spylo
Alexandre Giroux
Brett McLean
Ryan Keller

Dmen
Jim Vandermeer
Micky Dupont
Marc-Andre Gragagni
Francis Bouillon (not sure is he can play since born in USA)
Marc-Andre Bergeron
Derek Smith
Joel Kwiatkowski
Derrick Walser

Goalies
??

Chuck Kobasew representing Canada internationally is just wrong. There HAS to be better than him out there.

What is the criteria to represent? European based Canadians I'm guessing.

Kobasew is (was?) a pretty good player with 601 NHL games and 210 points...
He was a 1st round pick 14th overall
He did already represent Canada at the 2002 World Junior and was an impact player with 5goals 1 assist in 7 games
He has 16 pts in 24 games in Swiss NLA this year.

He is however injured right and doubtful for the Spengler Cup.

Another loss for Team Canada is Derek Smith who injured his back friday and is out for 3 months

Kobasew's most recent stint in the NHL with the Penguins was an unmitigated disaster. One of the worst players I'd ever seen.

They don't have it listed yet (same thing as last year, usually have to wait until right before the tournament), but TSN is currently under contract to air Hockey Canada events until 2024.

Now, while I would love to see all the Spengler games on TSN, I'm not sure what their rights are to air all the games.

http://www.hockeycanada.ca/en-ca/news/tsn-rds-to-remain-hockey-canada-home

The problem is they had Paul Romanuk covering the games before when he was
living in England. He started out doing it for Sportsnet and after for TSN.

Romanuk was free lance. Not sure TSN will want to send a crew for the first time.

What about Hnat Domenichelli?

Looks like there is some decent Canadian talent that will play against Canada. Geneve Servette have a bunch of recognizable Canucks and Zagreb looks loaded with Canadians (14 of em by my count of Wikipedia).

Boxing day should be fun. Spengler Cup in the day and World Juniors at night. Hockey Canada all day!

I absolutely LOVE watching the games from Davos. I love going out in the morning on boxing day, browsing a few shops, then coming home and watching the game while I eat breakfast/lunch.

Honestly, I have grown to enjoy the Spengler Cup even more than the WJHC. There is so much hand wringing with the WJHC. The Spengler is just good, plain fun.
