Quite a crazy draft with the original scouts getting the top 5-10 way off. Draisatl jumps into the top spot but Boston cleans up with Pasternak jumping into 2nd place from mid 20s and two other draftees jump into the 1st round. Larkin jumps into the top 5, and Point and Arvidsson jump up HUGE into that top 5, just crazy.

Ducks have both of their second rounders plus a 7th rounder rated higher then their top ten pick

Goes to show draft ranking is not the end all be all

would of had ekblad 4th to be honest..

The guys been in the league 5 years now and hasnt taken a significant step forward since. Larkin and Arvidsson have trended up massively since. Going forward I wouldnt trade either of them for Ekblad. Ekblad is a solid player but he is what he is

Sure that's your opinion but what's your argument on having the guys below him ranked higher? Larkin has posted a 70 and 60 point season in consecutive years playing center without much help in front of him.

Arvidsson and Nylander are 60 point wingers on strong teams and Ekblad is a meh number 2 defenseman. You might not be high on Larkin but he has a good enough argument to be where he is on that list.

Labanc wasnt even an option over Jared McCann or Marcus Pettersson? Labanc has 1 fewer point than both them combined and isnt even top 10 to be considered near them. Damn

What did you think of Victor Hedman after his age 22 season? John Carlson? PK Subban? Zdeno Chara?

It's awfully early in a career to declare a defenseman to be a finished product.

Yea but Ekblad hasn't shown any progression since he turned 17.

No he's not.
He's a guy you've got to watch to really appreciate. Super feisty, soft hands and pretty good vision. Blows me away that he hasn't put it all together yet but I'm not ready to write him off. Even as the player he is today I take him higher.

Oh he's certainly not bad, I am just refuting the "very good" label lol.

I thought that most of those guys can have their progression seem more noticeable than Ekblads for sure. First of all, Hedman was the only high pick in that group. They were all drafted later in the draft and it showed when they had to do a lot of developing to get where they are (except Hedman). Ekblad was always a man child, physically developed ahead of his peers. Carlson was never the big offensive go to guy when he first came up playing behind guys like Green and Wideman for a couple years. He developed but also took on a bigger role as he got older and is where he is now.

Ekblad literally stepped into the NHL playing big, top pairing minutes and hasnt really seen a lot change with him. Its not to say hes completely done developing but he was much more developed than most of these guys when he was drafted and these other guys arent exactly chopped liver either. Arvidsson got hurt last year but was playing at a 50 goal pace while already having some 30 goal years. Larkin has become an all situation, 2 way match up center that went almost point per game on a really bad team. But on top of those guys already being that good, their development curve is much steeper as well.

Ekblad might be the most physically mature prospect of the last 20 years. Its why he could step in to top pairing minutes but its also why he was much closer to his (likely) ceiling.

Good list, I'd only have Ehlers higher. But all in all, very solid. Top 4 are a notch above IMO.
