I don't know who to root for. I am a Canadian-American, and it certainly was an easy choice to root for Canada when the games were on Canadian soil in Vancouver, but Sochi? I like scrappy underdogs, like the U.S., I like home teams, like Russia, and Sweden's team is stacked and they aren't getting enough attention for becoming a better and better hockey power. That usually makes me like a team too.

Well, since the hockey rinks will now be Olympic size Canada won't have the advantage as they did in Vancouver... if the USA doesn’t win Gold I hope Russia and Bob does... ;)

I'm very American ... born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, and have lived in Spokane for the other 11 years of my life ...

Go Canada.

I simply don't like USA hockey ... for some reason never have. I'm not a tremendous fan of collegiate hockey, and have only found a couple of American players that I enjoy following. Really, I consider myself a Canadian at heart when it comes to international events.

My best guess at the medals:
Gold: Canada
Silver: Sweden
Bronze: Russia
First runners-up: United States

You got it, I am bookmarking this post…

Looking forward to a good tourney. Any of the big 6 could win, and it will likely come down to who is riding the hot goalie. I like USA's goaltending situation more than Canada's right now. Hopefully Price can shoulder the load.

Russia is on home ice... home ice at times creates miracles in the Olympics... remember mens hockey 1960 Squaw Valley or 1980 Lake Placid??

Look for Russia to take the gold...

I'm with you - have never been able to stand USA hockey. I think it started because I hated guys like Brett Hull, Jeremy Roenick, and Tony Amonte back in the day. Currently, I have white-hot burning hatreds for Ryan Kesler and Pat Kane and am indifferent to pretty much everyone else. Just have never been a fan of the players. I'll be rooting for Russia and Canada.

It must be because the Canadian national Anthem is a far better song than the US anthem.

According to Herb Brooks, its all about the name on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.

As much as I dislike some players on the teams of all countries, it goes to the back of my mind and I'm an American and root for the USA in international competition. I may have a soft spot for Russia because of so many CBJ players but Russia is the enemy next Saturday morning.

Americans have so many players I dislike, that would be easy to root against them. I never ever gonna cheer for a team with Backes, Kesler, Brown, Oshie and Kessel on the roster. #rururu.

I don't think those guys are a-holes the way Roenick, Hull, and Tkachuk are. They're just not fun to play against. Well, Kaner, yes he's an a-hole.

I was able to get out to the Hurricanes last game before the break

Justin Faulk had a terrible game I thought, I hope he plays better in the Olympics.

Putting a 21 year old on the D line against the world's best seems like quite a risky pick

Never thought I would say this, but if the USA can't win Gold I am pulling for Russia, 4 Jackets, and Bob just represents the team with such class on and off the ice

Fowler just turned 22 and he's there too. They face the top competition of every other NHL team every game. I think they'll be ok.

That's a problem for me too and you can add Brown to the list of dislikes, but I like Miller, JVR, Kessel, and Parise, and at the same time I'll be constantly comparing the US forwards to Dubinsky, and defensemen to Wiz and JJ. It will be hard for me to not root for Russia with 4 CBJ players on the ice.

I am having a difficult time getting behind this Team USA. There are just an awful lot of questions as to how and why this team is put together the way it is. This in spite of the supposed open door for reporters and their subsequent reports. Seems to me there was a lot more going on.

Some guys are on the team in spite of injuries and substandard seasons due to their "overall contributions" while others are off due to "poor performances" in spite of significant contributions over the years.

Speed was advertised as a major component of the team and then some rather slow individuals are added.

Some very young D are on the team. While I'm not saying they are not good players, but with very little international experience on the big ice seems like a strange time to make over the core of your D.

An awful lot of attention seems to have been paid to where they came from (big markets) as much as how they fit together.

Maybe it's just me, but there are a lot more questions on this team than there are answers. A finish without a medal will not be a surprise to me.

With Gaborik just missing out on the Olympics, has anyone heard what the forecast is for his return to the lineup in 2 1/2 weeks or so?

I'm with you. Obviously rooting for the U.S. (these Americans rooting for Canada and against the U.S. make my head spin :shakehead) but would like to see Russia do well for CBJ sake. Especially if Bob is starting for them. Even though I'm slightly nervous about how many American dollars would be added onto his contract demands if he medals, I'd just like to see him excel on the biggest stage.

Also, why is every non-hockey picture of Bobrovsky so unintentionally funny?

Bob's mask in Sochi.
8 stars stand for 8 Olympic gold medals that USSR/Russia won in hockey.
What's up with Americans using the "Mother Russia" slogan so often? Even in your based on football theme commercials. I've never heard any Russian saying so in relation to his country.

Sweden for the gold. Not that I want that, I just expect it.

For some reason i just expect the USA to miss the medal round (Nagano here we go) and Russia to stumble into 4th.
