Don't know if it has been mentioned or not, but there are a few under-the-radar players the Rangers (in my opinion) should be looking at, especially if they are losing Stralman, Boyle, Moore, and Pouliot, in addition to already losing Dorsett and Richards:
Mathieu Perreault - Small, but speedy, creative center. 26 years old, and a + possession player. More of a pass-first player, which the Rangers have tons of, but has a surprising shot (15-20 goal scorer). A top-3 center rotation of Stepan, Perrault, and Brassard could certainly be worse. Would be a younger, faster version of Richards.
Mason Raymond - Another speedy wing to compliment Hagelin, Kreider, and the rest. If the team's identity is going to be speed and possession, these two are great targets, who don't seem to be drawing a ton of interest on the media boards.
For the inevitable revamping of the bottom line/bottom-6, I'd hope they are looking at guys like Devin Setoguchi and Blake Comeau. Bigger (relative to guys I've seen mentioned like Brian Gibbons and the like) players who not only can hit, but love to hit, as well as crash the net and have proven to be capable of popping in offense, who are coming of relative down-years, and likely won't be looking for a ton of money.
And not as under-the-radar, but, as mentioned, Christian Ehrhoff should be a high-priority target with Stralman leaving. Despite being left-handed, he plays the right side, and loves his one-timers. He thrived under Vigneault in Vancouver (28 goals, 98 points in 159 games), and despite being on the older side of the Rangers' players at 31, fits the need for offense behind McDonaugh on D. I've seen Fayne floated, but I'd honestly rather give the extra space back to Stralman, as I expect they sign for surprisingly similar cap numbers.
More under-the-radar guys, if Ehrhoff and Stralman are too expensive could be Zach Redmond (right-handed, offensive minded, great skater, yet to breakout and would come cheap), or Brett Bellemore (defensive-minded, so not a great fit, but right-handed, cheap, and has shown a willingness to engage in the rough-stuff).
Really hoping for more shrewdness from management, as they need to get creative, and those would be a few of the guys I'd be investigating... Anyone hate the idea?
Let the frenzy begin!
