Guys Here is my idea, what about going after Blake Wheeler or A Marchand?
I hate to say it but I think Umberger and boll/frattin are expendable

Welcome to the boards! I would love to get Wheeler. Once you are around more you will know that those three players you mentioned as expendable are one of the least popular around here.

I think wheeler johansen and boone would be a great first line
I like the calvert Duby Atkinson line chemistry

I don't know about Horton foligno and anisimov would fit together or what we could do for chemistry but I don think they would mesh

fourth line Letestu Mackenzie and ____ whover

don't know how wennberg would fit in either if he is ready

I just don't like Horton with 19

comments are appreciated

if we got marchand together with calvert nd Dubinsky we would piss so many teams off and get in heir heads

We never really got a true look at Joey and Horton so that would be nice to see before breaking them up. Also I would really hate it if we got Marchand, man I hate that guy

I think they might make a few low impact type trades, and choose to let a few walk to create some roster space.

My gut is we will see a more deliberate pace with prospects. No more learning on the job. As an example, I think there is a good chance guys like Wennberg, Dano and Rychel will play a season or more in the AHL until they learn the Jackets system and learn to play a 200 foot game. In Wennberg and Dano's case also to learn to play on small ice. We may not see another teenager make the roster for a long time. 22-23 year old rookies will become the norm, not the exception with this team.

Guys who do make the big team will already be Blue Jackets.

I see this being the case as well. Johansen and Murray are both young, but were both top five picks, and Johansen was probably brought up a little too early and was very sheltered early.

Rychel was one guy I really wanted us to draft and so I'm glad he just had a monster season, in addition to many of our other prospects. If even two of our current prospects work out, we're still looking at a killer top six in a few years. My expectations for Rychel are just as high as they were for Savard a few years ago (when everyone said I was nuts).

Wheeler is one of the better all-around top line wings in the league. I'm glad you brought him up because we don't talk about him enough, but I'm sure Winnipeg sees him as their building block. They'd sooner part with any other forward, especially Kane or Big Buff.

The wife was reading over my shoulder and saw Marchand's name. She then said, "Look honey, with Marchand on one side and Foligno on the other, you could finally play in the NHL and finish up the Big Nose Line!"

You may have to battle this guy for that job(one of my all time favorites).

Byufglien-Johansen-Horton. That's a whole lotta man right there. Probably also would lead the league in puck possession time. The question to me would be if Buff is really a wing or a scoring defenseman? I like the Wheeler idea, but it would cost us roster players and I don't think that the Jackets want to subtract from the core. The same would be said for Kane, but I'm not sure that his baggage would work here.

With the favorites getting bumped off in the playoffs (pending Ducks outcome) the off-season has gotten a lot more interesting. More players are going to be allowed to walk or made available on the trade market. I've got a gut feeling that hockey fans are going to see some players moved that they didn't see coming.

Realalistic trades/moves for cbj

I could see the jackets possibly picking up Callahan. I could also see us going after wingers as we need top line wingers... Suggestions or thoughts?

Perhaps the greatest Finnish forward ever and efficient member of Anaheim Ducks third line is UFA this summer. Saku Koivu. He's only 40 years old next season and this season was bit off a negated by Dubinsky's hit to his head which made him miss the Olympics. 29 points in 65 games during regular season.

Could be looking at joining some contender if he decides to continue his career. Boudreau didn't treat the Ducks veterans very well in play-offs so continuing there might not be an option.

If there will be centreman shuffle during season that is...

I keep coming up with the name Boedker! That's an addition who would be very welcome. I also would like to see a low risk, high reward move like Josh Bailey(NYI) brought in. Could add IQ, skating and a little size but hasn't put the points up yet. Would he be better in Columbus? Lastly, another one I think could help now and going forward is Quinton Howden(FL). He could just be a bottom 6 guy but another one that can play in all aspects, can skate and has good size. IQ? jury is out thus far.

Boedker and Silfverberg remain my two top 6 targets with Boedker showing he can already play there and Silfverberg looking like he would fit the mold (play dramatically improved as the playoffs moved along and he got back from his wwrist injury).

If this regime is anything like the previous one, I wouldn't expect a low-IQ player to enter the system unless the price is a complete steal. I think the only players drafted under the Howson regime who were considered "low-IQ" were Dalton Smith and Seth Ambroz. Smith was described as average, Ambroz as above average offensively and below average defensively.

None of last year's drafted players would be considered low-IQ, which would lead me to believe that the same aspects are being emphasized.

I think the most significant change between xGMDM's reign and that of subsequent GMs is the overall IQ of the players involved. I don't think some of our earlier "stars" (read draftees) were all too smart. I'm including Nash and Zherdev in that pile. If you can't figure out how to utilize line mates, my guess is there isn't a whole lot upstairs.

Umby calling for trade, I wonder how much of his salary we will have to eat. Can t see more than a late round draft pick in return maybe some bodies. Thoughts?

1) Selanne > Koviu
2) There's no need to a 40 year old center to a young team that has plenty of depth down the middle.
