I think Rangers take first in Metro
I didnt like what Pens did this offseason,
Better than rest of division.

All players on board with AV system

Rangers get 105 points this year

I like the way you think!! I agree I think the pens got worse and the rangers will finish first in the metro but it will be close.

I feel like the East is very hard to predict right now, but here's my random guess.

Playoff lock: Boston, Pittsburgh
Very likely to make the playoffs: Rangers, Tampa Bay
Fighting for a playoff spot: Montreal, Columbus, Detroit, Philadelphia, Washington, Islanders, Devils, Toronto
Bottom Teams: Buffalo, Florida, Ottawa, Carolina

Boston
Tampa Bay
Detroit

Montreal
Toronto
Florida
Ottawa
Buffalo

Pittsburgh
Rangers
Philadelphia
Columbus
Washington

Islanders
Devils
Carolina

Flip Flop Pitt and Rangers, Flip Flop Philly and Columbus and I think you got the Metro

Montreal gets the 3 seed in the Atlantic and my suprise prediction, Fla gets the 4 seed in the Atlantic

Kind of amusing that it took a conf. final and stanley cup final appearance within 3 years and playoffs every year but one out of 8 years to finally make people feel like we're not an 8-10 team.

Well, that and a change to the playoff structure.

I sure hope so!

I'm not too sure though. I think the Islanders are going to be a lot better and so is Columbus. I think the Metro is going to be a very tough division in the coming years.

That's what people say every year to be nice. There will be cellar dwellers as usual no doubt about that.

Pittsburgh
Rangers
Columbus
Islanders
Flyers

Devils
Capitals
Hurricanes

Tampa Bay
Boston
Montreal

Toronto
Detroit
Florida
Buffalo

Pens are still the best team in the division. I do think we push them next season.

Oh Bozle I expected you to have Florida on the bubble.

I think they could make a push. Depends on Detroit being healthy, and I can't count Toronto out, as I think Bernier is an excellent goalie, and they have the offense to support him. I do think they did decent work in fixing their blue line, too. Those three should be very close.

don't count out Montreal dropping off, either. Those are my best guesses, though.

Purely standings wise, I'd be shocked if the Rangers weren't comfortably in at least 2nd in the Metro.

I also don't agree with the notion that the Pens got worse. Ehrhoff is a huge add, and an upgrade over Niskanen. If Maatta slumps though, forget it. He really has to build off of last year to keep the Pens all of a sudden good D core going.

That's because the senile old GM keeps having roster overhauls every summer, so of course people will be placing us 8-10 because they don't know how the team will mesh. Let me ask you this, of the last 8 years how many Rangers have stayed with the team all 8 years? My point exactly

I actually think the Isles could give us a good scare, challenging us for the 2nd Metro seed. I like the additions of Grabovski and Kulemin. Upgraded in goal as well. Defense is a huge question mark, but I think DeHaan and Reinhart will have somewhat of an impact for them.

Metro
Pens
Rangers
Islanders
Columbus

Atlantic
Boston
Bolts
Habs
Leafs (yes, seriously)

Probably too early to call - hopefully this is not the roster we go to war with in October. Sather has two and a half months to make improvements, and I think improvements are necessary.

Positives;
1. I know we get burned by this all the time, and I'm usually the first one to criticize bad signings, but I think Boyle is going to be an upgrade over Stralman...IF Boyle's concussion issues are behind him. If not...have mercy. And I'm talking about the regular season - it would be almost impossible to upgrade over what Stralman did during the playoffs.

2. No stupid schedule to start the season, which Sather could not control, but also no stupid training camp schedule all over the continent - which Sather could control and failed at miserably. Made absolutely zero sense.

3. Most of the team starting the season completely aware of and able to apply AV's system. We can hit the ground running this year. On the flip side, AV knowing exactly what he has going in - Zucc will not be a healthy scratch any time soon.

Negatives:
1. You can make the argument a number of teams in the Metro will be better this year. The Stupidlanders and Devils certainly improved, and the Devils cannot possibly pull another 0 for 13 in shootouts again. A healthy Crosby makes Pitts a different team than we saw in the playoffs, and I totally agree with whoever said Ehroff was a huge signing - one year, $4 million. Wow. The Blue Jackets playoff run will make them a stronger team, and we'll find out how good a coach Barry Trotz is - as the latest coach to try to figure out Ovechkin, if he does, watch out.

2. Gotta wonder which Martin St Louis we'll see this season. We had the St Louis who did not score and did not play well during 19 regular season games, followed by the St Loius who did score and did paly well during the 25 playoff games. Which one will we see going forward? How much of the Spring was predicated by his personal tragedy, and how he and the team responded to it? How much of it was him figuring out how to play here? Time will tell, but the answer probably lies somewhere between those two - hopefully tipping more toward the playoffs St Louis. If not...ouch.

3. AV likes to play four lines, and you can make the argument while the fourth line had a fine regular season, it was one of our top two lines through the playoffs. Brian Boyle became one of the best defensive forwards in the league during the playoffs, and will be tough to replace. For all those wondering in the Tanner Glass thread why so many people are worried about the signing of a fourth player, if our fourth line plays significantly worse than last year, the team could easily be worse than last year.

I aslo worry that with Boston, Montreal, Tampa and Detroit being so solid, if one of Florida, Ottawa or Toronto has a rebound year we could easily find ourselves with only three playoff spots available in the Metro.

Is there a plan to do the poll for the conference again? It's great to debate the individual spots for the east.

i always do a power rankings thing closer to the start of the season...still too much in flux right now.

Sounds good. Wasn't sure if it was around now or later in the summer. Enjoy be dating the middle of the east, since we know usually who is #1 and #2 although that opinion may be different this season.
