Ryan Miller went into the 2009-2010 Olympics with 3 wins in the 13 games right before the Olympics, and back then, Sabres were a decent team.

He was the MVP.

EDIT: Just as I typed this out, Sharp scored assisted by Toews and Keith on Luongo.

Ya, his 3rd in 12 games. which was the point of my post...a lot (too many for my liking) are running that type of streak. But it was his 2nd goal in as many games, so hopefully it is the start of another hot streak.

Everyone has their own opinion. Giroux has a bit more size and skill as a playmaker and age is definitely a factor as well, this team is younger than it was in Vancouver(not sure if this was deliberate but might make sense on big ice)Both Stammer and Giroux are RH shot not sure if this has any bearing on the decision. Both Giroux and MSL have the same pt performance this year even though Giroux started the season in a huge slump. Either way it's going to be a hard decision for Yzerman.

I don't know if there is much, or the extent of the truth that Crosby and Giroux don't like each other, but if so it's be good to avoid them playing together. I'd still name Giroux if Stamkos cannot go, but I'd move Carter up into his spot. Giroux would probably be a good fit with Tavares too.

Kunitz-Crosby- Carter
Benn- Tavares- Giroux
Sharp- Toews- Nash
Marleau- Getzlaf- Perry
Bergeron
Duchene (but I would rather he played with Crosby than Kunitz).

That's quite the fourth line :laugh:

Ok here is what i think...

No Way does Kunitz become the 13th forward...They brought him along to be with Crosby, thats the only reason he is on this team

No Way does Stamkos go to the olympics, i mean, its 2 weeks before the start and has yet to practice contact, let him take his time for his sake, dont rush

I prefer a Neal at 100% than Stamkos at 85% - this decision must be made soon

Shea Weber is Day to Day - anyone heard anything?

Price played well against Hurricanes...he got a shut out..lets hope he peaks at the right time

got my answer for Weber:

Ryan Rishaug ‏@TSNRyanRishaug 3h
Word on Webers injury is, it does not look like it will put his Olympic participation in jeopardy at all, barring a major setback.

Love those back-checking Russians. O.V. is a minus 5 tonight.

I so badly wished that Canada was facing them. I'm getting tired of the debate in other threads and would like to have Team Canada end it rather decisively once again on THEIR turf.

Too many people talk about how good their forwards are but only see the offensive output, or talk about what they did several years ago. Kovalchuk is not the same player, Datsyuk is not even the same player anymore.

I would actually be surprised to see Russia medal

Ryan Getzlaf has 26 goals now, which is his new record.

The best four seasons for Getzlaf in goals:

24 goals in 77 games - 2007-08, 82 points
25 goals in 82 games - 2006-07, 58 points
25 goals in 81 games - 2008-09, 91 points

26 goals in 52 games - 2013-14

Btw, Perry with a goal too, another (10th) GWG probably.

On this note, has there been any news about who is, or could be, on the short list for injury replacements? I can't seem to find anything on it myself. You'd have to think St. Louis, Giroux and Neal would be high on the list for forwards. Maybe Giordano and Seabrook on D.

Giordano has to be the replacement left shooting defenseman now. Missing a month and a half probably cost him a spot considering his play this year.

He's currently second on the Flames in points, despite missing 20 games, is currently nursing an 8 game point streak and is a plus player for the Flames. His defensive partner is -12 and players like Cammalleri are -20 so being plus is definitely an accomplishment.

He's only behind Keith when it comes to point-per-games for Canadian defensemen and only behind Letang when it comes to goals-per-games for Canadian defensemen.

To be fair Sharp got robbed of a goal that was rightfully his a couple games ago.

Yeah, Doughty shut Ovechkin right down with solid defensive play and hipchecks. And that was when Doughty was less experienced and Ovechkin was the 110 point, 50+ goal, do it all player in the NHL.

Another Stamkos report on TSN. Light contact in practice but he's not where he needs to be to play in a game and doesn't sound like he's really close.

Replace him with St. Louis I say. Not having a healthy Stamkos hurts our gold chances but even without him there is an abundance of firepower.

I didn't get that from the article. I saw it as more positive than you did.

The thing that struck me was the....."I'm hoping in the next week and a half, two weeks, that that feels a lot better and I can do certain movements without having that pain or at least with some pain that's manageable."

The first game is less than 2 weeks away. He can't and shouldn't go in unless he's back to a close level to his pre-injury status. It's been said, but a 100% St. Louis or Giroux is a better option than a 70-80% Stamkos.

Here is TSN's projection for how the team will look as far as combinations:

Kunitz Crosby Stamkos
Marleau Tavares Carter
Sharp Toews Nash
Benn Getzlaf Perry
Duchene Bergeron

Keith Weber
Bouwmeester Pietrangelo
Vlasic Doughty
Hamhuis Subban

They did not talk about who they expect to actually start as goaltender, or who the 8th defenceman and 14th forward are. Really hate that fourth line. It would be a liability on international ice. Marleau needs to play with Getzlaf and Perry.

Agreed.

I would switch Benn and Marleau as well as Weber and Doughty.

Bergeron as the 13th forward and subban the 7th defender.

Craig Button gives a solid breaks down of the tournament on TSN. He, like me, predicts a Canada-Russia final with Canada winning Gold.

He sees no upsets among the top 4, or 8 teams, along the way.

On CBC right now Healy said they had a conference call and these were the potential replacement players

Neal, Staal, St. Louis, Hall up front.

Giordano, Seabrook, Staal on D.

Crawford as the G.

Friedman brought up Giroux not being on the list, Healy said he's not in the conversation and said Stall was the leading D.

Does SIDS and Girouxs relationship have anything do do with this. I may be a Homer, but it is insanity a guy like Carter made the team over him and not even being a short list replacement candidate is insane ?

Its time for Yzerman to grow a pair and name an injury replacement for Stamkos....The guy isnt going to be ready and kudos to him for trying but it just makes no sense to take a player who will no where close to 100%....

Hockey Canada is filled with a bunch of ****ing morons.

Giroux deserves a spot over Duchene, Benn, Carter and Kunitz. Nash and Marleau is also debatable.

But Neal, Staal and Hall? It's absolutely ludicrous

That blows my mind. Giroux is three points out of the 10 spot in NHL scoring and that's after having an abysmal start to the season (after wrist surgery). How can they leave him off this roster?

I highly doubt Yzerman and Babcock approached Crosby and asked him if he and Giroux could get along. And even if they did, Crosby is a classy enough guy that he's not going to say something that would put another guy's spot on the team in jeopardy. It's not like this is a personal rivalry that started off the ice. I'm sure they could swallow their pride and put their differences behind them.

Why does Hockey Canada hate Claude Giroux?
