You forgot Jon Sim...he's long overdue for a re-return. :)

Outside of sarcastically saying, "Oh gee...Radek's hurt again...big surprise"...I don't remember frequently saying, "What the hell are you thinking Radek?! Stupid play...ugh!" When he's healthy...he was always a smart player out there defensively. He would just have the absolute worst luck.
And they weren't Rick injuries of a recurring CHRONIC nature. They were freak incidents that were just bad luck. Hit into the boards the wrong way, hit at a bad angle, nasty knee incident....he never shied away from contact. He just has amazingly bad luck.

Hopefully luck changes.

that guy would get hurt replying to a post on this very board. probably a dislocated shoulder, in perfect Isles fashion.

I'm really curious to see what Snow does once there's a ratification and before the season. This Visnovsky situation sucks but the best thing that can happen is Snow replaces him and THEN Vis reports. God knows we need the help on defense.

A short season is perfect for radek, if he only plays 45 games he plays all season! He is solid when he s out there,
Streit-hammer
Macdonald-Vis ?
Marty-carkner/donovan/mara/foster/????

Isnt the worst thing ive ever seen i guess. Whatever lets just try to outscore everyone and have fun...the forwards hopefully put on a show. Hopefully grabs can pot some more of those breakaways...i think if he gets 30, tavares gets 90-100 points, moulson scores 30 and okposo can finally break out on tavares' wing we can put up some goals...a good season out of Strome wld be a welcome addition and neilson can play his true position 3rd line center and still produce from there.

Everyone is in first place so far so lets get excited for once!!!!!

Martinek = Typical isles patchwork using leftovers...

Have to agree. Martinek was getting old and slow when he left and he is ALWAYS injured. Come on guys we have to do better then a washed up Martinek?!?!? Looking at the rosters of the teams in the east and it is going to be a very painful but short season.

I started a thread on the trade board asking Chicago about Niklas Hjalmarsson.

This was one of the responses. What do you guys think. To me its very doable.

Who is going to replace Frans? If Vis does indeed suit up for us, their is no reason to be looking for a defenseman.

yeah and 1 injury and the Islanders are back to guys like Reese, Hillen, Eaton, Staios etc... You are not making the playoffs in the east without defensemen and the Islanders are very thin on D.

In the mean time if you made the trade and Vis decided to show up we would have a much better and deeper defence of

Striet - Hamonic
Visnovsky - Hjalmarsson
MacDonald - Carkner/Martinek

With Donovon/Wishart as first call up.

I'd rather sign a 48 game fill in like Martinek, then move Frans Nielsen for Niklas Hjalmarsson. We've already seen Bailey fail in the 2nd line center spot.

Are we just handing that 2nd line spot to 19 yr old Strome or 22 yr old Brock Nelson, despite neither having 1 career nhl game?

Good to be back talking hockey. I would love to see the Isles bring Radek back regardless of the Lubo situation, but there if Lubo is out there is no way he can be the replacement they rely on.

There won't be a preseason game in Brooklyn right? Is that dead?

Not a single tune-up? Wow. Didn't know that. Gonna be some serious squeaky wheels around the leagueyfor the first week or so. Luckily the Islanders have had a significant amount of our players keeping warm in other leagues. We might have a ump on some teams here.

Truthfully instead of Radek, I'd rather they sign someone else off the scrap heap. We all know Radek is a pretty solid player when he's one the ice. But half a season or not, I don't trust the guy. There's gotta be someone more durable than he is that we could sign.

EXACTLY.

You have the team's best defensive forward traded for.....an extra defenseman, filling a need kinda that could be filled via scrap heap but giving up one of one defensive forwards. (Bailey is number two and not even close)

So we fill a minor need and create a major void.

And as far as point two.....it's been two decades of, "let's see what he can do." It usually comes with a waive/trade/bury wish two years later when mysteriously our kids don't develop. And fans keep stepping on the nail and getting tetanus shots rather than learn to walk around the ****ing thing.

I remember when you had to CRACK a lineup. This was years before you did crack and wrote a lineup.

Patience makes soufflés. Impatience makes flat egg clumps. BTW, I want Aidan Grabner on line 3. I wanna see if there's any chemistry with his dad. Crawls super fast, I hear.

I think this half season will see a lot of prospect experiments. This is a Wang opportunity to see what our prospects are capable of at the NHL level and I wouldn't throw it past him to give a 9 game look, not only to Strome, but Reinhardt, Perrson, Pedan, Pelech, Kitchton, Pokka, Mayfield and maybe some of the towering other guys we drafted last year.

I can't wait to like game 9 or 10 when Martinek is out 2-4 weeks with an injury and you all are crying about the lack of defensemen. Martinek?? Haven't we played that tired old record enough? No way the Islanders compete in the east with the defense they are going to battle with...

Has anyone heard if Grabs is healthy? No link but I thought I read he has a groin or abdominal injury.

McKenzie is reporting that the junior window is now 5 games played, 6 to burn a year so Strome may as well get his 5 games in this year and then go back to Niagara. With the defense so thin Reinhart may make it as well.

Not that I agree with this but this is the Islanders were talking about.

Last word was that he had something of that ilk and there's been no word since.

He did however tweet the following on the 7th:

Michael Grabner ‏@grabs40
Can't wait to step on the ice at the coliseum in front of the isles fans..will be a great moment #IslesNation #JTbringingthegoldenhelmet?

Have no problem having Martinek hang around. We could actually use three of his ilk at this point.

Any word on Joensuu, who I thoroughly expect to be one of the 13 forwards on the Island?

Not only has he not played since his injury over five weeks ago, but I can't seem to find any info on him via Twitter, even in Finnish.

I guess he's still out for a while in accordance with this article:

We're all islanders!

All the players in BST right now, except Hamonic, should stay in BST the remainder of the season.

I'm sure some isles will get Bailey-fied.
