Big year for the Atlantic and Southeast; Northeast looks weak again.

I figured that if a team is to reach cup finals, it'd be from more than just one player. And how often does it happen that a conference champion doesn't even make it to playoffs the next season?

Carolina missed the playoffs after winning the Stanley Cup. Tampa Bay snuck in the playoffs by one win also after winning the Cup.

Are people posting their with or without Luongo standings?

I really think people are becoming emo. Reimer is capable of giving us good goaltending. His save percentage last year was at .911% before his injury. If he gives us that, we make the playoffs. BOOOK IT. (homerism at its finest)

Well since NYR and Pittsburgh play in the same division its mathematically impossible for Rangers and Pens to be in positions 1 & 2 in Eastern Conference at seasons end other than on points but not positions as one of the top 3 spots must come from our Division the NE.

However I think you have the top 8 teams in the East in your playoff spots correct, as those would be my picks also of the strongest teams in the conference on paper, with NJ the biggest ? mark due to the loss of Parise.. However with a shortened season resulting in more erroneous unpredictable results from a smaller sample set this could change things dramatically.

That said, I do agree both teams Pens and Rangers look like the class of Eastern Conference and strongest contenders for the Stanley Cup.

Leaf fans with little to no belief in their team

good old hfboard

Okay make your case for why you believe a team finishing near the bottom of the standings becomes a playoff contender overnight with minimum roster changes and you may persuade new believers. Perhaps you are counting on a Luongo addition as a certainty of occurrence in your reasoning.

The reason for doubt remains obvious, and needs little to no convincing to the later.

This thread is a bit early. We should wait until the final rosters are set before making predictions, no?

I think the Rangers are winning the cup this year but Pittsburgh will get more regular season wins.

I'll never predict the Leafs outside of the playoffs, besides this team has a tonne of offensive skill, depth and a top notch coach. Anything is possible.

I think the Devils are going to regress the most this year. I think losing Parise is going to hurt them, Brodeur probably will start slowing down and Kovalchuck doesn't appear to be a guy thrilled to be here this year so I don't expect him to carry the team.

I think you are confusing Wilson's free roaming system with offensive skill. Carlyle will be playing a defensive system and many people argue we lack the players he needs in that system.

Don't expect 5-4 and 6-5 games with this season's team.
