Winnik and McGinn do not take our team to the cup

I'm not hung up on the trade, although we did lose it. I never liked McGinn, was lukewarm on him when he was traded. I just think we should have re-signed Winnik. He was perfect for our 3rd line, good on the PK, gave us more depth. DW signed Burish for more than Winnik got from Anaheim, and for a longer term too. I don't know why he would rather have Burish than Winnik.

IIRC Winnik wanted more when he left and took the money he did in Anaheim when it became clear that no one was going to pay him what he was initially asking for.

Burish does those things, fights, and brings energy to the locker room. I won't proclaim anything here until I've seen him play, but the addition of Robinson and the rework of the system mitigate the loss of winnik.

Grabbing Gomez for 700k-900k and the sheppard redemption gives us better depth than winnik for the same price.

We won't ever know the full extent of what happened but the general consensus was that winnik was asking for too much, he probably disagreed with some of our system stuff, and caps out at 30 points. I really think we can take the hit, IMO

Watched the Florida/Hurricanes game tonight when I got home. Florida looks like they haven't missed a beat since last year. I know it's only one game, but man that Huberdou cat is really impressive. Also, I know Sharks fans hate Brian Campbell for some reason (So he took more money as a free agent, that's what NHL Players do), but he really looks good in a Panther jersey. So glad the season is underway. It's been too long.

Oh, ok. I understand why re-signing wasn't Winnik's top priority though. He played a lot of minutes on a very passive, ineffective penalty kill. I'm optimistic with Robinson here now.

Well Soupy played like a coward during the Dallas game so he could collect his paycheck. The panthers game was pretty entertaining though I saw a whole new Mueller out there and it was nice to see Kovalev playing pretty well considering his age.

It's just one game, some teams looked like they were at half speed. I think two weeks from now, we'll have a better idea of how teams really are.

Pierre with a creepy vaseline story about Rob Ray. The players may have come out of the gate a little rusty but Pierre's already in midseason form.

It wouldn't be hockey if Pierre wasn't being creepy.

and watching Vancouver/Edmonton now (advanced scouting for tomorrow). While I have no particular love for the Canucks, Mark Donnelly (their anthem singer) is awesome.

Vancouver started Luongo?? Lol. Goalie controversy thickens. I thought they would show confidence in Schneider by throwing him back out there.
