I think McLeod has played center too. I didn't realize he PKed though... Now I really want him

I asked the Avs fans and they told me he is pretty much only a LWer. Same deal as Rupp who was a LW/C but could really only play LW.

He is not a superb PKer, more a 3rd grouping guy but the fact that he can add that on top of his toughness and his offense is a huge plus.

Trade Asham and Pyatt. Haley used as a spare forward. Dorsett, McLeod, Nystrom rotate on the 4th line.

Trade Del Zotto for a young center (Schenn, Couturier, Burmistrov) or young left winger (Paajarvi, Eberle).

Buyout Richards.

Sign McDonagh, Stepan, Hagelin.

Sign a veteran defenseman, unless we get back a defenseman in the Del Zotto deal (Paajarvi, Petry-RHD).

For me, I just put Dorsett or Nystrom on the 3rd line and role with that. Both were 3rd liners in Columbus/Dallas and can bring solid offense. Depends on which side they need, RW or LW.

I wouldn't mind Haley as the extra.

McIlrath is our Matt Greene mixed in with a career 90 plus winning percentage in career fights. I think once Dylan piles up 100 AHL games, he should be ready to play. Remember he is still growing, and maturing physically, and having him Dorsett, and a McLeod type takes care of business just fine.

Powe can PK and play a checking role and I don't mind him in a 4th line role as he is pretty consistent, while Pyatt and Asham are even more one dimensional as they don't fill roles.

If Pyatt can play the way he did in the playoffs, why didn't he do that for 40+ games? Effort and consistency, and no special teams contributions = goner.

Asham did not step up do his job, and I move him as it's an addition by subtraction.

I'm eager to see what happens with Clowe, but I get the feeling the Rangers will not commit to multi-year terms on Clowe. But a guy like Clarke MacArthur is not a 3M+ player as he had one fluke year on a bad team, and cashed in due to set precedents.

It should be a really interesting off season, especially with trades.

I wouldn't be opposed to holding onto Powe as a 13th.

Nystrom is much more than just a goon though. Very effective bottom 6er. A bit more skilled Campbell.

I just don't now how they want to play. They have a team that, on paper, with a few minor tweaks, could utilize some serious speed. Clowe is obviously not that. However I do like him as a player.

I would prefer to keep them off of the 3rd line barring injury. Them on the 3rd or 4th line is the difference between a contender's roster and a non contender's roster

I like him as a player too but I doubt he'll play much I the next few years.

3 concussions in 2 months. Too risky.

Both are more than capable of being solid complimentary wingers on a 3rd line. The Rangers were 1st in the East and had Prust aNd Fedotenko as 3rd liners pretty much. The goal is to be difficult to play against.

Just because they don't put up a ton of poi t doesn't mean they can't be effective in that role. Chris Neil is an effective 3rd liner.

Now regarding the Ranger defense, the Rangers have two RHD that can play top 4 mins, so it isn't a pressing need as much as having a PP QB that can do his job, and that's something DZ hasn't done since his rookie year. Can DZ get his swag back?

Off the top of my head the following players are RHD that can QB the PP, and play top 4 minutes:

Doughty, Karlsson, Weber, Subban, Boyle, Shattenkirk, Zidlicky, Faulk, Letang, Byfuglien, Green, Schultz, and Voynov. And are the guys I would move DZ for except for Buff (300 lbs), Zid (UFA). Now how many are available, and what is the cost both in terms or assets, and the cap?

That is how you get an upgrade on DZ without replacing the newest whipping boy internally.

I agree that DZ isn't the same player on his off side, but Torts never played McD or Moore on that side so we don't know what they can do. Staal and Girardi made a pretty good shut down pair too, so it's not as if moving McD to the right is going to create a huge hole.

They are serviceable on the 3rd and more than capable to play there. I would just be more comfortable with them on the 4th line. Probably only possible in a perfect world though

I would be okay moving MDZ for a LW or C + and signing someone like Scuderi to pair with Moore on the 3rd pairing to allow him to join the play as much as possible.

Faulk intrigues me. What would it take to pry him away from Car?

MDZ plus what?

Well the finals offer a good view of two contrasting ideologies. The Bruins and Hawks employ two systems that are working in today's game, and I think it will come down to tempo. Fast pace= Advantage Chicago, Slow Pace= Advantage Boston.
