As suggested on the main board,

Milan Michalek + Da Costa for Del Zotto + Pyatt

See if Weiss will take a 1 or 2 year deal, sign Nystrom and Douglas Murray

Hagelin Stepan Nash
Michalek Brassard Zuccarello
Kreider Weiss Callahan
Nystrom Boyle Dorsett
Asham

McDonagh Girardi
Staal Stralman
Moore Murray
McIlrath

Me gusta.

I'm a huge Michalek fan, but he's been completely riddled with injuries for the majority of his career.

Would rather go with someone healthier and younger. We could get more than that, I think, overall for DZ.

Honestly I don't think he's bought out unless we upgrade somewhere else. He can be an adequate 3c albeit overpaid

There's no way they don't buyout Richards. Its a salary cap health issue. If he retires prior to his contract expiring 7 years from now, the Rangers take a cap penalty of the full amount. 6+ dead cap space. If he gets injured and can't play, cap penalty. If he's traded it still applies.

Buying him out is the only way to assure they don't lose 6+ million in cap space. That's two to three players worth of cap space.

What would NYR want from Edm for Boyle, be realistic please in my opinion he is a 3rd/4th line center.

Would something around ANA 2nd plus a prospect be enough?

Your assessment of Boyle is fair. Essentially, he is a 3rd/4th liner.

I would say a 2nd + a prospect for Boyle is good. What prospect did you have in mind?

I agree. I love him too but getting someone of that ilk or potential to become a consistent 30-30 1st line LW for MDZ seems pretty unlikely at this point. I think our best bet is Burmistrov but I would LOVE to get our hands on Schenn or Couturier.

The Rangers could use some quality bottom-6 prospects. Like a Marcus Kruger, for example.

Well, what we really need is a blue-chipper, burt Boyle alone won't return that.

A quality bottom-6 player would be nice. Preferably someone who can skate and is physical.

I said be Realistic

Something like

Ana 2nd + Zharkov/Rajala/N. Schultz/Harti was more along the lines of what I thought was fair value.

Ana 2nd and Zharkov sounds fair. Although I doubt the rangers will give up Boyle after his amazing post season.

2nd + Rajala or Hartikainen is fine with me. Big fan of the latter two.

Why would Del Zotto be a target of Detroit? They have a glut of defensive prospects that will be ready in 1-2 years.

Talking hypothetically, I'd want Nyqvist and one of Jurco, Tatar, or Frk. Build from there.

The Rangers should wait till the trade deadline to trade Boyle (if at all.) By then Miller/Lindberg might be more comfortable at the NHL level. Also, teams tend to be more desperate at the deadline than during the offseason. See: Paul Gaustad at the 2012 trade deadline.

Quick is paid like a great goalie. So is Howard now. Rask will be paid like that.

Let's take the flip side of this argument.

How many teams with lackluster goaltending don't even make the playoffs?

PHX without Smith?
TB?
CAR without Ward?
EDM?

Quick and Howard all make less than Hank. Lundqvist has the 2nd highest cap hit of all goalies and that's just 125K less than Rinne

I would also argue that the teams you mention would not have been good enough WITH lundqvist to make the PO's

Give me Cam Ward and the difference in $$ to use on additional scoring for the Rangers and I think we could be as good or better than we are today.

This is no knock on Lundqvist, just my opinion that I do not believe that it is necessary to have a goalie locked up to the tune of 8+ million.

I think it's the wrong way to build a team in a capped world and one that is going to ham sting our ability to add the scoring needed.

We want to pay Hank 8 million.

We want to trade one of the cheaper more cost effective defenceman

We have overpaid marginal 4th liners

Something is not working and it can't ALL be put on the coaching.

The structure of the team is all wrong.

Does such a person exist?

I'm one.

Never wanted Sather to let Orr go in the first place.

we are on the 3rd version of what Orr brings to the table in Asham.

Brashear - FAIL
Boogaard - FAIL
Asham - no more effective at the role than Orr has been, or would have been.

Orr got 1 million a season.

Brashear over a mill
Boogaard over a mil
Asham similar money

Turns out that the best course of action would have been to have kept Orr

Agreed. I'd rather not go into the season with two NHL-level centers.

In each and every GDT you can read read what a horrible team the Rangers would be without Lundqvist, and while he is close to get paid like who he is, the best goaltender in the game. Some of you wants him gone with the argument that we can win with a solid golie? Who is that guy? We don't have any like that in this organization. You suggest to trade for a overpaid Luongo or a unproven Bernier?

for arguments sake.

Give the Rangers Cory Schneider and the extra 4-5 million to add scoring up front and I gladly take my chances.
