I still like the MDZ for Burmistrov + WPG 1st 13. It helps fill a couple of holes.

Nystrom is the UFA they should target. Streit would fit on a 2 year deal.

Pyatt, Powe, Asham need to go.

I think we keep Asham. A little heavier and less passive than other guys. I'm scared that Streit would be more of a liability now, doubt he walks from the Islanders so quick though too.

Like the idea of DZ and Burm, but it leaves holes for us on D. Even though we have been impressed by Moore, Stralman, if we trade DZ and they turn out to be not-as-good, we're kind of stuck.

Everyone who is putting Moore as an automatic top 4 defender next season didn't learn much from Kreider last spring. His play started to fall off during the Washington series, I'm not sold on him just yet. I am not down with trading DZ before next season for this reason.

Nichushkin looks tremendous with the very little I've see on him. Kind of reminds me of Rick Nash.

And I normally hate combine stuff. But the fact that he could only manage 8 (!!) push ups just does not sit that well with me. Not because he is weaker than he should be for his size. That's not too hard to improve...IF you have the determiation and will to do so. Beyond the strength aspect, and potentially very unfair since I don't know the kid...but that really makes me question how much work he has even had to put into getting as far as he has. And I also know there are a lot of top tier (even good pro) athletes who can get by with that. Maybe he is one. But if I am taking a kid top 10 I would want to know that they live and breathe to give everything they have to the sport.

That said the tape he's produced is still extremely tempting. Great talent.

Lol 8 pushups? Seriously? I could not workout for a year and gain 40 lbs and still bang out 20 push ups...and I'm not even incredibly strong.

I have always wondered if they did it differently. I never actually went to a combine, I could do about 58 sustained low push-ups at that age, but with the numbers I see from some very strong kids, I often wonder what procedure they use. I see draft day kids that are able to do more pull-ups than push-ups at the combine. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Not sure how the combine does theirs, but technical, cadence pushups are really difficult to do and need to be trained for.

As an example, I can crank out between 80-90 'normal' pushups in a 2 min test. Doing 'technical' pushups to cadence my best is 41

Yea absolutely, strict technical pushups are no joke. Still, they used the same scale for everyone. It's one exercise for a sport where the combine doesn't mean a ton. But if I were looking into Nichushkin I would want to do a lot more digging on his work ethic after that.

Not like any of this is relevent to the Rangers anyway, barring something crazy.

Trading Del Zotto straight up for a draft pick is dumb unless it's top three. None of these kids are a sure thing. You need some insurance.

If Nichushkin is there I'd work out a deal. He can play next year. How long is Hank willing to wait? Long enough for a Monahan or Lindholm to develop? Doubtful.

If we trade one of our D-men, I want it to be part of a bigger plan to get one of the top players in the draft. MacKinnon, Drouin, ect, will play next year. If this isn't a possibility then we need a Goligoski/Neal type deal.

None of our guys should go straight up for just a pick.

Nichushkin played a full year in the KHL. He didn't prep for the combine at all.

He won't play in the AHL. Are the Rangers okay with him going back to Russia?

Nichushkin doesn't seem like a pick the Rangers would make, and besides that, with the hype he's getting I think he's going early.

Nicushkin voided his KHL contract and is confirmed to come to North America next year.

No one available at 7 is NHL ready. Doesn't make sense. I'd absolutely do it to move into the 2 spot and draft MacKinnon, but Florida isn't willing to go further than to the 4 spot.

Yeah, but that is for one pick in the return mix.

What if we also do Staal for 5th +, keep the +, and ship the 5th+ 7th overalls for 2nd overall?

With Del Zotto due for a raise next summer, now is the time to move him, if we're going to do so. A lot hinges on Staal, both related to his health and his interest in staying in NY past his contract, but something around Del Zotto for the 7th overall pick would not be the worst move in the world.

Would absolutely love to move into the top 3 and grab MacKinnon or Drouin as a core forward to build around, but I'm not sure that's realistic.

the smart play is not just for MDZ
Move out for Staal etc for top return while we can get it

and who plays defense for us after you trade both del zotto and staal for draft picks?

Oh so what happens next? We trade Taylor Pyatt, Arron Asham, Kris Neebury, Matt Gilroy, Michael St. Croix, our 2067 1st and a 2018 6th for Drew Doughty?

Because that is on par with your usual nonsensical posts. Wouldn't surprise me in the least knowing you as a poster.

You can make any of several different plays for Jones.

But what you are missing is if Staal + MDZ are replaced by ELC contrats, you have HUGE opportunity for stop gap rentals/acquisitions until Skjei and Noreau are here.

Almost.

We're trading Taylor Pyatt, Arron Asham, Kris Neebury, Matt Gilroy, Michael St. Croix, our 2067 1st and a 2018 6th for Taylor Hall.
