Zubrus-Zajac-Kovy
Elias-Loktionov - Horton
Tedenby/UFA-Josefson-Henrique
CBGB

Isnt terrible. But I would prefer Zubie on the 3rd line.

My ideal lineup would be

Horton-Loktionov-Kovy
Elias-Zajac-Briere
Zubrus-Josefson-Henrique
CBGB

I don't see us getting Horton, but I'd love him here.

I think these lines are more realistic:

Henrique - Loktionov - Kovy
Elias - Zajac - Zubrus
Tedenby - Josefson - Clarkson
Carter - Gionta - Bernier
Barch

If we happen to sign Weiss, move Josefson to LW and Weiss to 3C. Or you can move Josefson to 4C, Gionta to the bench, and stick with Tedenby. See what he can do. I think signing Weiss would give us some decent flexibility but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I really hope we see something out of Loktionov next season, because having him penciled in as our top line center just makes me really uncomfortable.

Oh, and if he and Gionta are both lining up at center all of next season I'm going to riot.

I'm willing to bet Loktionov improves his faceoff ability this offseason. No doubt in my mind that our coaching staff realizes it's his biggest weakness.

And I don't really consider him a top line center in a traditional sense. The top 6 is chemistry based, the 3rd line is a possession line, and our 4th line is what it is.

He'd better. He was embarrassing on the dot last season.

I just don't see why he can't play LW. And I'm with you on the Carter/Gionta flip. Carter has taken 1800 faceoffs in his career and wins at a 52% clip. His yearly faceoff percentages read:

.615, .480, .525, .505, .499, and .518. They're solid numbers for any player, and outstanding numbers relative to our team.

If Gionta takes 200+ faceoffs again next season I'm going to send Pete DeBoer a nasty letter. There's absolutely no logical reason I can see for him to line up at center instead of Carter.

We need to have the kind of top-6 talent that no more than one of Henrique/Loktionov/Zubrus/Clarkson are in the top-6, with the remainder on the 3rd line, and Josefson centering ( or on the wing with Carter at C) the 4th line. That requires acquiring 2 legit top-6 players, and if Clarkson walks, a 3rd liner as well.

I would be surprised if that lineup made the playoffs, to be honest. 1 injury and were screwed. Not to mention the average goaltending we could be getting. Someone needs to be brought in that can put up 20-35 goals.

Yea, pretty much. I'm not really in favor of bringing back the same group and trying the same things that failed miserably from Feb-April. I'd like at least 1 decent, top 6 forward brought in somehow to bump guys like Clarkson and Zubrus down a line. If Clarkson leaves then were probably gonna have to bring in another guy, preferably a 3rd lliner who puts up similar numbers like you said. I don't see 3 new forwards coming in unless Zubrus leaves as well. I'm not getting my hopes up for a whole lot of activity from Lou though so I'm preparing for trouble.

He is only penciled in though if we either get another center or JJ becomes the 3rd line center so Henrique can move to wing. I guess you could maybe thing of moving JJ to wing instead so Henrique can center one of the top lines and Loki center the 3rd line too.

Also yes, with Carter I don't see many reasons for Gio to be centering that line.

I don't disagree at all, honestly. That's why I'd like to sign Weiss or Horton. It would allow Gionta, Tedenby, or Josefson to fall into a reserve role.

Henrique is a top 6 player, not sure about Loktionov yet - he could be - and Zubrus is fine as a complimentary guy. Clarkson doesn't belong there at all. Not his game.

My pipedream offseason.

Sign Weiss, Horton.
Trade Zajac for Dustin Byfuglien
Re-sign Elias, Clarkson and Zubrus.
Buyout Volchenkov
Trade Picks and move up to draft Nichushkin

Nichuhkin-Loktionov-Kovalchuk
Elias-Weiss-Horton
Zubrus-Henrique-Clarkson
Carter-Gionta-Bernier

Salvador-Byfuglien
Greene-Fayne
Larsson-Tallinder

Brodeur-Hedberg

Each one on their own can play effective top-6 roles. Start including 2 or more of them in the top-6 and we don't have the talent up front to contend.

I tend to hold the contrarian belief that Lou is going to be busier than many think this off-season.

I think Lou is going to be very active at the draft. And while people overpay for free agents like Stalberg, I think he will make some quiet "huh? okay" signings like Boyd Gordon or something that'll end up working out.

I hope Lou is active. wouldnt mind a couple extra picks, get some good forwards
