Briere is a great playoff performer and if we intend on making the playoffs he probably should be signed. He can play center or wing and we all know how Deboer loves that versatility. He is still worth 3 or 4 million a year and can play in the top 6 if needed. It's crazy to just say no to that.

I don't think he would even cost that much money if he were to be bought out. I don't think $3-$4 million would be what he'd get. I'm thinking $2-$2.5.

He will get more than 2 million. His salary for next year will be 3 million and the year after it will be 2. I think he would want 4 million and probably settle for 3.5

He is still a top 6 player and can contribute offensively more so than Zubrus and maybe more than Zajac. He is on the decline, but I think he will be fine for the next two years

I think many of the guys bought out will likely be given small contracts. Short term, and for not a lot of money. I think we'll see that once they start getting signed after being bought out.

Yea for a team that was historically bad offensively this season, I don't think were in any position to reject guys who could easily come in and contribute 20-30 goals which we are in desperate need of.

Don't worry, Ponikarovsky or Nystrom will provide!

Briere scored 6 goals in 34 games this year. 16 in 70 last year. scored 30 once in the past 5 seasons. He has a history of injuries. He is getting older.

Easily scoring 30? Nah, I think 20 would a good season for him.

Best attributes of Briere would be cheap and short term. A stop gap signing that I could, maybe, possibly agree with.

And he still has some wheels right? Not your typical older player in that regard.

He wouldn't be my first option during the summer but if a lot of the plans we have fall through then I think you have to take a look at him.

I blocked a slap shot in a roller hockey game with my cup. Felt fine at first. 10 seconds later I was short of breath and dry heaving on my bench.

The slapshot was from a 20 something year old kid who's highest level of hockey was probably high school varsity, a small plastic puck and a crappy stick. Never find an NHL player known for having a good shot, a hard rubber puck, and one of the best sticks in the world.

I took a shot the cup one game and nearly let a goal in because I was on the ice in pain. The shot seemed innocent and it didn't hurt right away. I guess it's all about hitting the right spot haha. I can't imagine how much the Richer shot hurt.

The Penguins are going in the most wrong direction ever. To not only keep Fleury (when people realized he should have been gone after the Flyers series) but to re-sign Bylsma is an utter joke.

I don't believe the trading Malkin rumors. While the Penguins made stupid decisions those really can be fixed within a year. You don't trade Malkin, it'd ruin the franchise. He is the best player in the world when he's playing his best. I mean how do you give up 36 pts during your cup winning season? How do you give up a close to a 1.5 ppg in 75 games just the year before this?

A season of Malkin is enough for a team to give up huge assets. People are talking contract extension but any regular playoff team that adds Malkin automatically becomes a contender and that is worth giving up your future.

I had a weird dream a few days ago that we traded for the rights of a player and we had the biggest gif party to date.

I cant remember who it was though

Sign of things to come :sarcasm:

Well they still have MAF signed for 2 more years. While Herm has one year left in NY. So if Pitt's plan is to go after Herm, then I don't see the rush in paying MAF to get lost.

And agree on Malkin, just resign the guy.

I actually thought it was three. Two ain't that bad. They can definitely buy him out at the end of next offseason and go after Lundqvist. Guys like Fleury, Volchenkov, etc who have longer-term deals will probably get one more chance next year, then get bought out if things don't improve before the deadline for compliance buyouts. The only teams that'll use the buyout this offseason are the ones that are really stuck up against the cap and/or have contracts coming off the books next year.

Rangers and Flyers for sure. Both of the SCF teams are up there, but Boston just won't re sign Horton maybe? Can't think of what bad contracts they have?

Still think Havlat is bought out by the Sharks too if they use it.

btw if anyone wants to watch a horror show, they're replaying Game 2 2006 against the Canes on the NHL Network lol (it's in the middle of the third period now).
