Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello finally made some definitive statements today about Ilya Kovalchuk playing in the KHL all-star game today in Russia and missing the start of training camp.
First, Kovalchuk will fly back to New Jersey Tuesday and will practice for the first time with the team Wednesday.
Second, Lamoriello said he has spoken to Kovalchuk multiple times over the last week and that, though he could not give him official permission to play in today’s all-star game for insurance reasons in case he was injured, he had Lamoriello’s blessing to play in the game and return to New Jersey Tuesday.
Lamoriello said he did not consider Kovalchuk in violation of his contract and there there will be “no penalty” and “no repercussions” for him missing the start of camp.
So take back all the tweets, posts, and dumb articles written about Kovy.
