Matteau is here for camp, but it sounds like they just want to see where he's at while they have this window. Unlikely he'll make team

Matteau better not make this hockey team. I think that would be a disaster for his development.

Yeah, Lou pretty much said it was just to see where he's at

Lamoriello said Stefan Matteau could stick around for a time (perhaps five games) but is probably headed back to juniors.

Lamori8ello on Matteau: "More just to see where he's at. We're just taking advantage of the window we have with the rules."

I don't get the big stink being made about sykora. He's painfully average, remarkably slow, and all he does is ride Patty's coattails. He's a year older now I don't see him being any better. I agree with Lou see what the kids can do. Or make a move for someone of more value than Petr.

I have to agree, give the kids a chance. And from what I understand Sykora was not going to be trying out anyways.

I think he ends up with Oates in D.C. Apparently those two were pretty close when they were teammates on the Ducks.

Sounds like they intend Kovy-Zajac-Butler to be the first line....

Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello finally made some definitive statements today about Ilya Kovalchuk playing in the KHL all-star game today in Russia and missing the start of training camp.

First, Kovalchuk will fly back to New Jersey Tuesday and will practice for the first time with the team Wednesday.

Second, Lamoriello said he has spoken to Kovalchuk multiple times over the last week and that, though he could not give him official permission to play in today’s all-star game for insurance reasons in case he was injured, he had Lamoriello’s blessing to play in the game and return to New Jersey Tuesday.

Lamoriello said he did not consider Kovalchuk in violation of his contract and there there will be “no penalty” and “no repercussions” for him missing the start of camp.

So take back all the tweets, posts, and dumb articles written about Kovy.

The Devils are consistently a team full of overachievers.

I'm willing to see what Darche can do before I form an opinion either way (crazy, right?)

If he's not outplaying any of the other AHLers/enforcers Lou brought to camp... then hopefully the staff plans accordingly.

Seems like every team is looking for defencemen. I believe DET and EDM are two teams with great motivation to upgrade the blueline.

keep that phone nearby lou ;)
