If Clarkson does wind up getting that money I can see him having to go to some garbage team like the POS Avalanche who suck every year. And get coached by Joe Succo.

Dano works for the Devils I think. Which is why I don't know why he would publicly state that.

Dano has been with this organization for over 30 years, even longer than Lou himself

For a guy that spends most of his current time around that same team he's been with for over 30 years and to not have a clue doesn't seem like a fair accusation

Yup.

I'm just wondering though why he would say that on the record. Wouldn't that get him in trouble? Millard could have said ''A source within the New Jersey Devils says....'' rather than use Daneyko by name. Apparently Dano didn't wanna remain anonymous or this Millard screwed him.

Working for an organization for that long doesn't mean you get to peek at the books. Dano's still just a drummer in Lou's orchestra.

No disrespect, love you Dano!

Should also be noted, Millard's tweets are generally worthless.

Did he say it in an interview or in a conversation? Was the context misconstrued? Always that kind of stuff we don't know

I do agree with you guys though, Dano of all people would know to keep his mouth quiet to others about stuff like that so who knows about what happened as in the questions I just raised

We have bigger problems than being able to afford David Clarkson or not one of which being if we really can't afford him, then what the hell can we afford

Did Lou talk to Clarkson's people? How do they know he even wants that much money? Even McKenzie said it last week.

Chico went around saying he didn't think Zach would be back last year. However Chico was teammates with the old man Parise, and could have gotten a lot of that from him.

From the interview, Dano is saying that 5 - 5.5 million is more than Clarkson is worth, but someone will overpay him. NO allusion whatsoever to the Devils' finances.

this is how I read it.

I thought so, makes a lot more sense. Of course it is spun to overstate our "demise"

Beginning at 1:30 of the interview that is nearly verbatim what he said re: overpayment of Clarkson

Then to emphasize the "what does Dano know" point, around 7:00 Dano said "I do talk to Lou and if I said anything he'd kill me and he doesn't tell me that much anyway!"

And that sounds like the 100% truth. He might know a few things, but not what our financial state is, and clearly that wasn't his point.

He thinks 5.5 is an overpayment for Clarkson, which I think we ALL agree on. Put this chapter of "we are broke" to bed lol.

Yeah he totally put that out of context in his tweet. I think he meant couldn't afford it as in it would ''Cripple the cap/cash flexibility to give a player like him that'' rather than the team couldn't afford it.

I'm still not sure though. Hopefully the Zajac contract means good things.

but yes ur right I was commenting on what I felt was worth nothing to do with affording or not! Just opinion!

Those idiots totally take his comments out of context. Dano should hunt them all done, and knock their teeth down their throat!

Sad thing is, Millard will probably not correct himself, and all of his idiot followers will carry on with the "Devils are broke" theme. Ah, such is life as a Devils fan.

Clarkson for $5 million would be pretty stupid. $4.5 is reasonable if we assume that this 30 game slump is just a huge anomaly. I'd be more comfortable with $4 though.

Hopefully the 30 goals, and hot start to this season was not the reality. He's still only had about 12 career games worth of success as a top 6 player.
