Marc Staal is in a LOT of pain right now, no visor and got hit right in the eye area

****.

That's bad news right there. Hope he doesn't have serious injury / fractured orbital type deal.

Also re the GIFs... what a train-wreck-spectator society we are... it's like instantaneous now when someone gets hurt, there's a GIF or video going viral.

I just saw the video; he got hammered. I hope he's ok. I can't tell if he took that right in the eye area or the brow. Just wear the visor, its not worth the risk. I started wearing one in beer league after seeing someone take a laser to the face.

EDIT: wow, double deflection in that GIF ^. What are the chances of that?

To me it's as simple as the composite stick. Those things load up with so much potential energy now that you have to be ****ing insane not to wear a visor over your eyes. You got HS kids taking 80 mph slapshots, etc. Even beer leagues can be dangerous like you say (although that's as much dangerous for morons not keeping their sticks down as anything else). I don't care if you fight or not. If you fight then just take your damn helmet off first; it's not complicated.

Yeah, I'm kinda hoping it hit him more in the brow and then in the upper cheek (from some pics you can see a mark on his cheek) and even if it hit his eye, it wasn't too bad.

The scariest part to me though is that of right now there is no update on him from the Rangers and he had that concussion back in 2011.

You know, Jack Edwards receives a lot of flak for some of the idiotic things he says but I enjoy listening to him call a game. He shows a lot of passion when the opponent scores, unlike some of the other robotic announcers around the league. At least he doesn't put me to sleep. I'm looking at you, Steigy.

I never ever want to see what happened to Staal. Why the **** aren't pro players wearing cages yet? I'm all for toughness, but come on.

I don't understand why the league isn't making these guys wear visors. Staal is lucky he didn't lose one of his eyes there.

Making them wear a cage would eliminate a lot of injuries too but I can understand why some would think that's going a bit too far and I know they're not easy to play with. I hated wearing a cage in street hockey growing up.

Surprised the Islanders are just two points out of the playoffs. 4 Atlantic teams in 7,8,9 and 10. Could all 4 of those get in?

Has anyone been watching CBJ? I watched a few early games and Anisimov looked amazing. Is he still playing very well?

just looking through the latest Elliotte Friedman 30 Thoughts column and this struck me as surprising, given the success Neal has had since he's switched to his off-wing.

Had a terrific conversation with Oates last week about his dislike for players lining up on their off-wing. He is 100 per cent against it and explains why with an MLB analogy. "You look back through the history of baseball and every shortstop throws right. Why?" "Because it's too hard to make the throw left-handed," is the reply. "Right," he says. "How many plays won't be made because a left-handed shortstop isn't able to turn, get set and make the throw with strength or speed?" He believes the same theory applies to a winger on the wrong side.
