Obvious statement but doesn't it suck that Sid had the concussion? You see its impact in so many small places. Saw the clip of Alf cross checking Rinaldo in the head after another dirty hit. Not saying Alf is tougher than Sid, or the shining example of a tough captain.

But in some of the games where we need a response, and we need that leadership on the team, I see Crosby being much less in the thick of it than he used to be. It is my opinion that teams with that tone setting leadership are almost always the better for it.

Team looks like it could use more camaraderie

Alfredsson is in the waning moments of his career. He can afford to act like that.

Crosby signed a big long term deal this offseason. I'm sure we would all be grateful for his leadership when his career is over with another concussion because he decided to crosscheck some **** disturber in the face.

 People would be ripping Sid for a lack of discipline and bad leadership for that too. He can't win.

He's at his best when he tries not to. For example, his slewfoot on Callahan was filthy, he got chastised for it, but pretty much said 'eh, they kept cheapshotting me, so I retaliated'.

Other than our game tonight, I also have some interest in Toronto. I see Frattin is back and is a game-time decision. His stats are pretty impressive; 10 GP 7G 3A.

So, Kaleta got 5 games for his little push on Richards.

5 games for that... vs. 4 for what Dirtbag Harry did? Shanniban has lost it. That makes no sense. Either 5 is right for Kaleta and Harry got about 3 games too few, or Kaleta just got reamed.

Kaleta has two previous suspensions, I don't believe Zolnerhalcyonnunchucks has any disciplinary history.

Figured that's what it was but it still doesn't make sense. I think they ought ot have some type of mechanism to make the relativity part work. Either make the repeat offender start forfeiting salary at $50K + game salaries lost, or make it clear every extra offense you tack on two more games. So this would be (in theory) 1 game + (2 games * 2 prior incidents) for a total of 5. There's no way in absolute terms what he did was worse than Ingrown Harry's hit.

It probably would have been about 1 or 2 games if Richards didn't roll around on the ice like someone stole his fanny pack.

I couldn't agree more with this! There needs to be some transparency to how suspensions work. Either Shanahan is just pulling them out of thin air or they have to have some kind of formula they are working with.

Kaleta is pretty much a serial offender like Cooke though. If/when he ever does anything they deem wrong they will throw the book at him. Zolnierczyk is a fairly new guy in the league but it won't take long for him to reach Kaleta's level.

Carter with a hat trick on free hat night. Now 5-0 LA over Nashville. Not sure what took Trotz so long to pull Rinne.

I wonder how many hats ended up on the ice being that it was a giveaway.
people love free stuff. I guess it would have to depend on what they looked like.

The Draft Lottery rules have been announced... looks like the 14 teams who miss the playoffs WILL all have a shot at the #1 pick. Thereby making everyone's #1 pick potentially more valuable as injuries can knock anyone out of the playoff picture. Granted the odds for the 14th team in are very low but a chance is a chance.

The NHL is borrowing a page from the NBA when it comes to the draft lottery.

The NHL announced Monday that all 14 teams that miss the playoffs, or the teams that hold the rights to the top 14 picks, will be eligible to win the No. 1 draft pick when the lottery is held on April 29.

Other changes include all 7 rounds being held in one day this year.

So it's just for the #1 pick and you still can't move down more than one spot from where you finished in the standings? I like it.
