Nieves' Blue Boys had a rough weekend -- swept in the GLI.

Still, Nieves is a stud. The kid can do everything but score goals. He played wing most of last season on a veteran team who stunk. This year, Berenson moved him to center ice with a whole bunch of freshman on the flanks and it's been a slow transition, but the Wolverines are a top team in the nation.

Nieves has all the tools. Big, strong, ice vision and slick playmaking abilities with blazing speed off the rush. I dont think his numbers are an accurate picture. His game translates to the NHL.

Kreider didnt have a great sophomore year at BC. It started slow and then he picked it up after the WJC.

Nieves is certainly good enough to be in Malmo. With that sheet of ice, he would have been very hard to contain.

Get him to Hartford soon.

Sounds pretty good to me. Hope this is all accurate. :yo:

The Big ten Network played the games this weekend. Nieves looked OK. He needs a lot of work defensively. He still dosnt know how to read plays in his own zone.

He's not having the kind of year he should be havingm but Michigan has played some tough games already -- Just 15 games in and theyve played BC, BU, UNH twice, UMas-Lowell, and Ferris State -- all ranked teams when they played them.

My issues with Nieves have centered on his head and maturity. Berenson might not be the right coach for that -- maybe Jack Parker.

any chance duclair is traded this year? quebec seems to suck this year.

Geez no. They're only 4 points away from second place.

They're missing 3 regulars to WJC (Erne, Sorensen and Herzog) which is their whole first line and 6 others are injured.

Anyway, they're contending next season and he'll be their leader on offense with Erne.

Does Duclair get WJC consideration next year?

If he keeps it up he'll get an invite to the summer camp for sure. Then, it will depend on his first half of season next year.

Team Canada likes to invite back players who took part in the U18 and Duclair did so it gives him a chance.

He's certainly making some noise right now and making Hockey Canada regret not having picked him to at least try out.

If he keeps it up, as Constantin said, he'll be invited to the summer camp and he should be back next season and be their leader. Especially since the 2015 WJC is in MTL, his hometown.

BUT, no one knows for sure, if he'll make the NYR roster or not. As Constantin can vouch, he can gain the speed, and weight in 1 summer, to make the NYR team next season. I am of the belief he needs 1 more season in juniors to truly prepare, but he seems to be on a mission right now, and we're seeing his best and most consistent hockey.

Speaking with scouts, they say he would have received his invite for the December camp, if Hockey Canada had invited 40 players as they done in the past. This is the 1st year they've done things differently. Hence, got short changed. But that's not a problem, HC does things differently. Nugent-Hopkins and Monahan were cut and the yr after, HC begged their teams to release them.
This might be the path for Duclair, you never know......

So reading the WJC board it seems like Russia is the favorite. So it's pretty impressive that Buchnevich is a 1st line guy. US is a good team so having a 1st line D-man is impressive too.

I guess 2 guys in the WJC is not a low number. Even in 2010 I think we had 3. But they were all on the team I'm most interested in and Stepan was huge.

BTW, does 3 assists on 18 or so goals on the first line disappointing for Buch?

It isn't just Buch, the whole first line doesn't seem to click for the Russians. Which is a scary thought for anyone playing them, considering how good they already are. If the first line puts it together, there's zero chance anyone stops them.

There's a new format for this year's WJC. The first four teams in each group advance to the quarterfinals while the last placed teams play a best of three relegation playoff.

Hence all advancing teams have to play in the quarterfinals and also Canada can't miss the quarters like it was said on the previous page.

Did not know...thnx

Rus-Fin 1-0 after the first.

Buch made the goal happen, deked the pants off a couple of Finns and fed a trailer for an open net.

Watched the third period of the Germany/CR game. Germany really wanted that win. Very spirited play down 4 men, 2 of whom are their best.

Duclair is the 1st star of the week in the QMJHL.

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday December 30, 2013 - Anthony Duclair, Matthew Boudens and Danick Martel were named today the TELUS three stars of the week for December 23 to 29, 2013.

The first star of the week is awarded to Anthony Duclair, Quebec Remparts forward. In two games against Rimouski, Duclair scored 2 goals and added 4 assists. Saturday, he got 4 points in a 5-4 overtime win. Sunday, Anthony scored the tying goal to force overtime but the Remparts eventually lost 3-2. In 37 games this season, Duclair has collected 57 points.

He had 22 points in 10 games in December. He really put the team on his shoulders as they were missing 8-10 players to WJC and injuries.

I just turned the game on and the Swedes scored right away. You're welcome Swedes.

BTW, nice to see Buch getting assists. I think we all know that he has a good shot.
