Here's a huge problem. What you just said could be applied to over 75 percent of our forward this year.

Nash
Richards
Stepan
Hags
Brassard
(for arguments sake) Callahan

OH LOOK AT THAT. With the exception of the 2 breakout players in Zucc and CK, I just named EVERY OFFENSIVE PLAYER ON THE TEAM.

When so many players have seen such a dire drop in effectiveness seemingly over-night, it isolates your real problem.

This team wasn't a coach away from winning it all, but now they appear to be a coach away from even making playoffs.

As far as what this board wants, give me a break. This board is short-sighted, bi-polar, emotional and weak. Don't ask me why I love it. I can't seem to leave.

Don't you dare bring up the Avery effect. You're inviting the idiots from the worst corners of the board to come tell me that we should trade Cally for picks and re-sign Avery.

I agree but Callahan is the captain and he USED to set a tone early and get the team going. Maybe Callahan under AV is not as effective as he once was under Torts, maybe 50-60 point players are not worth 5-6 mil for 7 years. I just dont see Callahan in the top 6 for a long time on an AV team and paying Callahan 5 mil for 3rd line duties is dumb

Callahan is just beat to ****. You cant play 21 minutes a game in all situations with that kind of style and last very long. He is the definition of an overused player.

So how many minutes do you give him? And what kind of contract if he cant play in all situations?

3rd line minutes at even strength, 2nd PP unit and id take him off the PK for now. Maybe slate him for 17-18 mins. I would be a buyer at no more then 4 years 4.5-4.75 max.

Am I the only one that has absolutely no positive feelings over Staal playing? He's a shell of his former self.

Yup. I'm excited he's back. Guy has had a lot of bad luck the last couple years. Getting him back in the lineup, even with limited minutes to start, is big. I'm going to just ignore the last part.

Great to see Staal back, and I hope he is truly ready, taking into account that playing real games is the only way to work off any rust.

I'm pulling for him, and not at all ready to give up on such a good player.

So his 7 Goals in 23 games means crap? He is the heart and soul player on this team, and Callahan should be re-signed.

Who on this team is our top 6 forwards?

Again you say he has not been effective under AV? He has only played 20 something games, has not even had a chance to get into a groove. He had 3 goals in 2 Games before breaking his thumb, and right before the knee injury he had 4 points in 5 games. So what else do you want him to do? Score a hat trick every night? :shakehead

Cally should get at least a 5 year deal but no more than 5.5 Million, no one should complain over that, it is not a lot of money to be taking that kind of risk with his injuries.

As per the injuries, prior to this season he has only missed 9 games in a possible total of 130 games. That is not bad at all. Over the last 3 seasons, He has had 133 points in 181 games, which is a .73 PPG average, who on the team is doing that this season?

When he is healthy is going to make a positive difference in the line-up. Out of all the people struggling this season, he is struggling the least, but has had multiple injuries to deal with, no proper training camp, and no pre-season.

What do i want him to do? I want him to play like he used to play and he hasnt. Injuries effected him clearly and as he gets older it will get worse. I dont really want the team giving him a contract for alot of money, especially if he is breaking down.

This season he hasnt been good enough whether you like it or not. Post every stat you want, his play on the ice is ******** and i hope it changes quick.

Again, who goes in place of Cally? Miller shouldn't be sent down. My money is on him but he absolutely should not be sent down again.

That entire line has actually provided energy, solid checking, and some good secondary scoring.

Miller playing in OT with Poo however gives me hope that someone else will be sent scratched. Hags is on the upswing. Kreider, Nash, and Step are gonna remain in tact. Richards, Brassard, and Zucc have shown flashes.

My guess is that Dorsett will get an extended sit until his wrist heals fully. After that, Moore should be the odd man out. But then who gets slotted down to the 4th line? Better not be Miller there either.

Tough decision for AV.

We also have 8 defenders. A healthy McI could make 9.

A trade needs to happen, soon. Roster spots need to be open. Some of our younger players need to get fair shakes to see what we have moving forward.

DZ + Brassard. Start there.

Cally is expected to return tomorrow or Saturday against Toronto. So a decision needs to be made soon. I think the lines will be...

Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Zucc - Richards - Callahan
Hagelin - Brassard - Pouliot
Boyle - Moore - Dorsett/Miller
