Big difference from last year when the D was terrible. Smart pick up of both Johnson and Syvret.

Yes, and they're even more important now with Miller, Kreider and Mashinter up in the NHL. That's tough for Hartford to lose three of their top forwards within a week. As Rangers fans, we certainly know what that's like.

I would love to see more advanced numbers for Kristo, but the AHL's stat-tracking is very primitive. 4 of his 6 goals have come on the power play, which seems to confirm the scouting report that he has the potential to be a power play weapon. It's nice to see him rack up the goals early on, but he won't sustain his 28% shooting percentage. (For reference, he shot 16% in college last year). I wouldn't be surprised if he struggles at even strength because of his frame, so that's what I'll be looking for with Kristo when I watch the Wolfpack.

How is McIlrath looking? All I seem to hear about is all the fights he gets into, but how is his defensive and puck-moving game progressing? Would he be ready for an NHL call-up now?

This is a good thing. He got a cup of coffee, proved he can play - especially on the defensive side - and generally made a good impression. He needs to play tons of minutes in all situations.

Good work while you were here, kid - now go down, get your offense going (try to put on a little weight, if you can) and come back up to grab your roster spot next time there's an injury.

As expected Jeff Malcolm assigned by Hartford to Greenville. Needs quite a big more work. Not expected was reassignment of Kantor to ECHL.

Kantor fits in fine at AHL level right now. Also reassigned to Greenville is Andrew Rowe.

Odd, he looked good in camp. Maybe just to get him more ice time?

i dont see how a guy like Kantor or Yogan couldnt be worse than Pyatt. at least they provide energy and grit. what does Pyatt provide?? :help:

He provides the ability to keep our young players down in Hartford to keep developing, instead of throwing them into this **** show. 4th liners take time to develop just like first liners do.

Looks like Missiaen and Stajcer this year... Malcolm would get eaten alive in the AHL, good for him to get ECHL time. Excited to see what Stajcer is all about.

Miller has more offense on one shift the. Fast all season

Miller is a much bigger risk defensively, takes stupid penalties and dangles like a hotshot in juniors. He does provide more grit and energy than Fast at this point but neither put up anything offensively so far. He is IMO far more in need of AHL seasoning. But in a perfect world both need more AHL time to develop. They are hardly the problem. Wanna have a beer one nightbtw? In town until Saturday!

Kantor gets ice time at the ECHL level--not just 4th line minutes and sometime scratches at the AHL level. Not a bad idea for him to get regular playing time--see what he can do.

Stajcer is okay. It has never really been an issue of talent with him, rather one of consistency and one serious injury after another.

Not really surprising about Kantor, for me anyway. He's fine as an AHL bottom-sixer, but he wasn't getting much playing time with Hartford. Just like Yogan last season, they'll probably give him a month in the ECHL to play big minutes and gain confidence. I'm not particularly high on him, but I'm sure he'll be back up with Hartford in a regular role before the season is over.

As to whether Kantor is better or worse than Pyatt--this team has no margin for defensive error, and while Pyatt is slow and boring, he's pretty reliable defensively. Kantor might be energetic and "fun," but he's a rookie with no experience who will make plenty of mistakes. The team is still trying to salvage this season. Maybe in another month, if we're cooked, we can go the full-on youth movement route.

Rowe looked decent. I imagine he went down with Fast back in Hartford.
