2012 NHL ReDraft

He's the Caps' third best player this year, so let's check in on the standings and see where that gets them...
Will see how playoffs go but even this season he hasnt seperated himself from PLD, Strome, Carlson, Thompson (before his fall off the last 6/7 games or so), Chychrun.

Ill take your word that hes the best of that group but even then the other names I had in my post in

Forsberg
Vasilevsky
Slavin
Helleybuck

Are amongst the best players in the league in their best seasons and are routinely top 2 players for their teams for majority of their NHL careers.

Those 4 are just a different class of player that Wilson can't be compared to

I can't see any case for him better than 5th OA in a 2012 redrafr if we are generous and ignore his unproductive early seasons or injury filled seasons and take him over guys like Lindholm, Rielly, Trouba, Parayajo, Hertl etc just based on his peak/prime play.

Seems like most of your posts are imaginings.

I decided to redo the 1st round while blending hindsight with team need/want at the time and the typical randomness, biases and dynamics that come with the NHL draft.

1. Edmonton - Hellebucyk
2. Columbus - Slavin
3. Montreal - Hertl
4. Islanders - Forsberg
5. Toronto - Vasilevskiy
6. Anaheim - H. Lindholm
7. Minnesota - Parayko
8. Pittsburgh - Wilson
9. Winnipeg - Rielly
10. Tampa - Trouba
11. Washington - Skjei
12. Buffalo - Ullmark
13. Dallas - Pelech
14. Buffalo - Teravainen
15. Ottawa - Dumba
16. Washington - Stephenson
17. San Jose - F. Andersen
18. Chicago - Lindell
19. Tampa - Severson
20. Philadelphia - Anderson
21. Calgary - Gostisbehre
22. Pittsburgh - M. Murray
23. Florida - Matheson
24. Boston - Korpisalo
25. St Louis - McCabe
26. Vancouver - Laughton
27. Phoenix - Kulak
28. Rangers - C. Brown
29 New Jersey - Sissons
30. Los Angeles - Ceci

Some biases that came into play while making the list:
- Even though goalies are drafted high and often, I still purposefully under-drafted them
- If a team really made a point about getting a player of a certain position, that could influence my decision-making (hello Tomas Hertl)
- If I had a 50/50 choice and one of the guys actually went in that slot, that's usually who I chose
- Storyline (e.x. Wilson to Pittsburgh) and whether a player had success with the choosing team were considered to some extent (Murray was a no-brainer for Pittsburgh at 22, for example)
- Probably tons of others idk

My attempt at a top-32 redraft with the power of hindsight:

1- Vasilevskiy17- Gostisbehere
2- Hellebuyck18- Pelech
3- Slavin19- Matheson
4- Forsberg20- Laughton
5- Hertl21- Kerfoot
6- Rielly22- Brown
7- Parayko23- Severson
8- Lindholm24- McCabe
9- Lindell25- Anderson
10- Ullmark26- Grzelcyk
11- Trouba27- Maatta
12- Wilson28- Kulak
13- Skjei29- Brown
14- Dumba30- Girgensons
15- Teravainen31- Faksa
16- Stephenson32- Murray

Kind of telling that neither Yakupov nor Galchenyuk make the top-32 in my opinion. Galchenyuk had good seasons in Montreal, but wasted so much of his potential it's crazy. Same for Yakupov in Edmonton.

But this is arguably one of the weakest drafts of all-time, and this exercise makes it pretty clear.
That is incredibly weak draft
