Fehr and the NHLPA willing to meet anytime/anywhere to negotiate a deal. . .
Speaking to a large throng of media here before an NHLPA charity hockey game at the former Maple Leaf Gardens, NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr was asked why bargaining has not resumed this week.

"Because the owners have not indicated a desire to resume," Fehr said. "We've indicated any number of times that we're willing to resume whenever they are without pre-conditions.''

Not one dime from me either.

And I haven't worn a hat or shirt etc. with any type of NHL logo.

Even scraped the Bruins decals off both my car and truck. Now that I think of it, I'll scrape the one off my trailer, too.

I know it doesn't mean much, and I know the NHL doesn't care, but it makes me feel a little better.

I know how you feel ! ...... But true hockey fans never give up hope .......never :sarcasm:

I can't afford going to games anymore. I usually have to rely on people with extras.

The last thing I paid for out of my pocket was for the winter classic, which was worth it.

But after this crap? I'll watch the games, buy its going to take a long time for me to even WANT to spend money on the game.

251 contracts (about 1/3) expire in roughly 6 months

103 are RFA

148 are UFA

Total: almost half a Billion Dollars.

No doubt a good reason the NHL wants to limit transition to 1 year. They probably don't want all those contracts being renegotiated with a second year at an artificially inflated upper limit.

Also a good reason they likely want to avoid any type to amnesty buyout, with that much money coming free they don't need them. I know my first thought was why decline amnesty when it's owners discretion to use it, but in reality most of the lower revenue teams wouldn't want to afford it anyway, so agreeing to such a clause would essentially be giving the higher revenue teams one more potential leg up.

Can someone remind me what Walsh been saying about honoring contracts again?

AUSTRIAN TEAM ANGRY AFTER BLUE JACKETS' BRASSARD WALKS OUT
The EC Red Bull Salzburg hockey club is seeking legal advice after Columbus Blue Jackets forward Derick Brassard became the latest NHL player to leave the Austrian team.

The 25-year-old joined the team in November and had four goals and one assist in six games for Red Bull.

The club said on its website on Wednesday that Brassard had assured them last week he would stay.

"Red Bull will be notifying the IIHF of the player's breach of contract and will seek legal advice," the club statement said.

It said Brassard cleared out his locker on Monday and left the next day, despite warnings from club officials.

"He was told not to do anything hasty that he might regret later, and he was reminded in no uncertain terms of his contractual situation," it said.

Red Bull is in ninth place in the Austrian league. The club is led by former NHL head coach Pierre Page and lists NHL players Brassard, Johnny Boychuk and Alex Auld on its roster.

However, the team has had trouble keeping NHL players this season. Brassard, his Columbus teammate Derek Dorsett, Winnipeg Jets defenceman Tobias Enstrom and New Jersey forward David Clarkson have all left shortly after signing.

Brassard's agent Allan Walsh fired back that NHL players left the team because of its "unprofessional" management," saying one player called the club "a joke."

He said Brassard returned home to Ottawa to wait for the NHL lockout to end.

The key word in that quote is " without pre-conditions".
The player's do have an NHL offer on the table and the owners have indicated on multiple occasions a desire to resume wen the NHLPA counter offer their offer, The Fuhrer is just ignoring it.

And the counter is "let's get together and negotiate." One side keeps making ultimatums and walking away, the other side keeps making concessions and waits at the table.

Wen one side keeps making ultimatums and walks away, it means the concessions you are making are of no importance.

Greed... is why the players are waiting by themselves at the table.

He comes with an agenda built in to his mission statement.

but that's his job, no?

If I were an agent, I don't think I'd say "I'll try and get you a mediocre salary." Not a very good sales pitch.

have enjoyed your posts in this thread, Kaoz.

and RE: Center Ice - yes, that for free for the rest of the year would be nice.

Had a dream last night that I was flipping through channels and NESN was scheduled to show Charlie Moore, but for some reason the Bruins opening night game was on....against the Thrashers. The building was almost entirely empty. Then I got confused so I flipped to Versus, and they were showing the Caps opening night game against the Jets.

I was so confused that the Thrashers were back, somehow the Jets had a game the same night as them, and that NESN and Versus were playing games without them being on the TV guide.

Then I woke up really angry.

I happen to be more with the owners in this whole thing, but let's not pretend that they are offering some wonderous golden goose to the players. The players are giving alot back...just like every other employee in the free world. IMO the players need to wake up and join the real world...this is how it is in real life.... But not for one minute do I think the owners are giving anything...they aren't...they are taking, just like every other owner in every other walk of life. It's just the way things are.

Yup and these sheep are being led around by guys like Crosby who have massive deals, or guys like Darche who have no deals.

With the NHL minimum salary being $450k and the average career 5 years, These guys have already lost 10% of the money they will make their entire NHL career.

walsh reminds me of that kid you grew up with who threatened to sue you for any "injustice" that was dealt to him. that type of guy is why i'm anti-twitter/social media. it is entertaining that he rails so hard against bettman and the league, yet without hockey, he's just another annoying lawyer.

Haven't figured out how many of those 103 are subject to arbitration yet, will get to it eventually, but have to figure that it has something to do with the owners wanting a change to arbitration as well.

Yes it is his job...in one on one negotiations with general managers. It's not his job to spread misleading propaganda for the NHLPA... which is what he does on a regular and daily basis.

The NHLPA is the sole negotiating entity for the NHL players in a new CBA, not Alan Walsh.

He's been on a stink about the NHL honoring contracts. He went to bat for one of his players who said the NHL should honor its contracts. But when it's one of his players not honoring that contract......

Exactly right. It's just not often someone attacks an issue so vehemently quite literally directly under a mission statement that proclaims their bias in such obvious fashion. The guys been very very vocal and doesn't care what information he pushes so long as it's negative and supports his obviously biased POV. Social media provides a platform for that type they never had before, and likely shouldn't have now. It's basically hfboards without the moderation.

We need to get what amusement we can out of this thing. ;)

Well, even if there is no NHL this season, it looks like the Stanley Cup could be played for and raised by someone anyway

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/spor...eur-teams-vie-for-stanley-cup/article6591259/

As the NHL found out during the 2004-05 lockout, the Toronto lawyers are a force to contend with once they start on something. Inspired by then-governor-general Adrienne Clarkson’s pronouncement that the Stanley Cup was given to “the people of Canada,†not the NHL, they took the league and the cup’s trustees to court. Nearly three years later, they gained a memorandum of agreement that was signed by cup trustees Brian O’Neill and Ian (Scotty) Morrison, as well as NHL commissioner Gary Bettman.
