They did have to, and that's why it isn't a concession. And yes, you can still have a negotiation based on the financial issues facing the NHL today. You wouldn't have CBA negotiations based on the players rights in 1994 would you?

Kaoz, I love ya man. But you are INSANE.

Make whole is a concession, but 50/50 is a reality?

No wonder the lockout is going the way it is. THAT type of attitude.

I problem I see is with the number of GMs needed to agree with Bettman. If the same number of GMs had any spheres there would be none of this. :yo:

Better get some shut eye, I leave for Boston in 8 hours.:p:

This sucks.

Everything horrible everyone has said so far about the players and owners is correct.

What a tease.

I kinda wanna see shawn thornton beat his face into a jelly of sort. I'd pay him like $150. Good enough right?

Yikes.. shes 30 and venting on facebook.. oh wait i'm 28 and do that. Tell her if she keeps on getting emotional she will be getting no xmas presents.

she already got the biggest present as my parents helped her get a 2 family house out there she gets the top part and they get the bottom.......

she gets helped buying a house and i get a watch and laptop

whos the favorite child? :sarcasm:

Back to the lockout tho........this should be the time of year I would be debating buying a jersey

To all a Merry Xmas and to all a good night.

I just wish all the fans/season tickets holders had the guts to give up their tickets so the players and owners could watch a game with a empty arena.

Funny enough I was all ready to forgive and forget and get excited for my tickets to come and some hockey.

Now I want to demand my money back mere hours later.

My seats are just good enough to make it a tough decision if they were a tad worse I'd probably be done.

How do you justify the players having the best CBA of the big 4 when the NHL produces less revenue and far less profit than the other 3?

You aren't describing a negotiation if you say the old CBA has no bearing on this one or how it works in terms of give and take.

You are describing a scenario where one side dictates how things will work and the other side needs to accept that.

I can see why the players are upset then.

(The players have gone to 50/50. I personally always said they had to.)

This is the problem, from what I can see. The owners are dictating, not negotiating. The players have made ever consession up to now.

Its bizarre and stupid.. and goes against most union/ownership bargaining sessions/deals.. but **** if they knew this.. than just go with it. No time to have a big ego. If everything is in writing then look at it and sign it.

Dude you're life is kinda like a new age "Ferris Bueller's day off". Except you're in college and no one really cares if you don't show up for class. :yo:

I will not be renewing this season no matter what.

Its come to the point now where I think Fehr would reject his own proposal if the owners agreed to it.

I see when this CBA is finally done.. him just saying something or doing some paperwork wise that just rubs everyone the wrong way, and just more bad blood being made. There is no way he's at the table for the PA at the next cba.. whenever that is.

I am as gutless as they come . Lets blame the fans and ticket holders for the the mess they have got us into . I am sure you would give up your seats as well :shakehead

That's because the NHL are the only ones putting forth realistic proposals...

The NHL and the owners came to make a deal this week. They added even more money to the pot in an effort to get this wrapped up. They thought it was SUCH a done deal that they alerted their GMs and coaches to get ready for the season. The players, in turn, asked for more and more. The owners laid out "the hills they die on" (IE: their bottom line) and asked for a simple answer and they didn't get an answer... instead Fehr went to the press and said they were "really close"

That's a bull **** move any way you slice it. I don't care how much you loathe the owners.

Just ask yourself this: do you/the players REALLY think that holding out right now will get them a better deal in ~3 weeks? After missing another chunk of games? The answer is no. Simple as that. The time to strike a deal was now and they blew it. They ****ing blew it.

Anyone care to reveal how/why the NHLPA thinks they will gain leverage by pissing off moderate owners?

Oy Vey

They drank Fehr Kool Aid.

Fehr failed at the one absolute tenet of Collective Bargaining. He misjudged where the tipping point was.

All negotiations have one. Be it labor, buying a house, anything...

You have to read your opposition and know where it is.

Life got busy yesterday, hadn`t had time to check in and see what happened in yesterday`s session....not bloody good when I finally did, and not one bit shocking

The players are going to be in trouble if they think they'll gain by this. I liken it to going down in the Titanic. They will get less and less as everyday goes forward.... and if the NHLPA thinks they will benefit from de-certification, they're bigger buffoons that what is already apparent. The VAST majority of the players will not benefit from de-certification.

I'd say a 1\3 of the players will be out of a job.

You think Jacobs considers all of this a mess when some are still going to pay 150 bucks for tickets and 10 bucks for a beer after a cancelled season and a diminished payroll? He's laughing on his way to the bank.

I'll try and find the quote after I get out of class, but I read last night that Bill Daly said the reason Fehr coming in could kill a deal was not Fehr, but the way the players went about it. Apparently it was not "We need to consult our union head so we can move forward with this" but it was more along the lines of "This player/owner dynamic is not working for us. It's over. From this point anyone can be involved in the negotiations, and that's not negotiable at all."

This is true but it is also true that he makes $0 for all the games lost. I would agree that the rebound in revenue and fan loyalty after the last lost season probably emboldens the owners to not sign a deal at any cost just to get on with it. But everybody is losing the way things are now, I'm sure all involved, directly or in related businesses, are noticing the missing $ by now. I don't believe for a second that anybody involved in the labor dispute "doesn't care" if there's hockey or not - it's just a matter of how thoroughly they are willing to scorch the earth to get what they want. And the answer is surprising as it turns out. Potentially 2 lost seasons out of 9. That's pretty amazingly inept.
