Ha! Nope. I don't see why he couldn't be a Rich Peverly-like player for some team. Plus he has great playoff experience and good leadership qualities.

Good leadership qualities? For who? The guy is a coach killer.

3rd liner? I want my 3rd liners to be responsible, which is quite the opposite of Gomez's game.

if we are on the topic of resigning our last mistakes i would rather have dru back than gomez, assuming both come very very cheap

Gomez is one of the last players I would want to bring back.

I'd much rather have Wade Redden back on the 3rd pair for cheap.

The guy isn't a coach killer. The entire team zoned Renney out, not just Gomez.

Considering the defensive acumen of Boyle (who would be the 4th line center), I would be okay with a 3rd line center coming in who can add 40-45 points and add some offense. He isn't that bad defensively.

Have you seen his time in Montreal, or are we in a time warp here?

In what world is he capable of 40-45 points with 3rd line minutes?

Exactly. The guy has been AWFUL. How often do these guys come around for a 2nd tour of duty with positive results anyway? There's usually a reason they got moved the first time...

I believe he was moved because they got a great return (hello McDonagh) and his contract was terrible. If you could get Scott Gomez for 1.5 million you wouldn't take him?

No.

Maybe its just because I have a higher standard for what a 3rd line center should be.

Its not just about putting up points. And with Gomez you dont even have that, you've got a guy that used to be able to put up some points.

I would. Dude is still an absolute gamer. At 32 he has a couple of decent years of hockey in him left too. Another veteran presence to throw on top of guys like Richards and Rupp who have went the distance in the playoffs? It's not like Gomez was terrible in his tenure in New York. The only thing bad about Gomez in New York was his contract. Take that off the table? And I'd bring him back. Give him a speedy winger like Hagelin to grind in the corners and he'd do work.

I think people will be surprised, if the amnesty buyouts take effect and Gomez becomes a free agent, what kind of market he'll be looking at.

Rangers become one of, if not the deepest teams down the middle in the NHL. Not to mention it's another playmaking center that Stepan can learn from.

Richards > Stepan > Gomez > Boyle

Hell yeah.

Games cancelled through 1/14.

There folks, is your drop-dead date. Perhaps now we'll actually see some negotiations...

Well, after the holidays of course ;)

Yeah right.... they can't even do a 50 game season after Jan 14th what a joke this league is

They got in 48 starting in January back in 95. I'd be fine with 48, anything less would be pushing it.

All conference play, it would be a death run to the playoffs

Exactly. 50+ ok. But to completely cut the season in half doing 40 or less? That's crap

They aren't doing anything less than 40. The least you will see is 48. The precedent is there from 95 and Bettman's on record saying he wouldn't go through with anything less as he believes there's no integrity in the season at that point. The entire schedule has to be redone if there's an agreement, doesn't matter how many games have been cancelled to this point.

The cancellation doesn't mean anything. Games have to start by early to mid january and the schedule has to be adjusted regardless.

48 isn't some magic number, it's just the number from 1995. There was a reason for it. At the time, there were 26 teams. If you take half the teams (your own conference) minus your own team, you get 12. This means that you can play 2 games at home and 2 games away for a total of 48.

This season 48 makes no sense. If anything, it can be 42: each team in the conference playing once home and once away, plus split either home or away with each additional conference team. Basically, it would be 3 games per conference opponent.

Had they settled things a little earlier, they could've played 56 games or 4 games per conference opponent.

integrity has been gone for a while now

Down to the wire.

NHL don't want to confirm it, but the next round of game cancellation will be the last one.

Bottom line to @nhl announcement. Partners told puck must drop jan 14th, means D.D. Date 8 to 10 earlier. Let's hope for a ny eve resolution

Daly: "You're looking at the middle of Jan. by the date this needs to be resolved…. I'm committed to doing it."
