2009 Born for the 2025 OHL DRAFT

But why defend nepotism? It's what a lot of these picks amount to.
Cause we don’t make the selections. Teams do. None of our business anyways. If they want to take a pick from a kid in Iraq with their 15th round pick then that’s their choice.

If the kids are good enough then they’re good enough and will get picked up one way or another.

exactly, its a private business, if that business owner is good with the manager making a decision that is for a friend, then why cry about it? how many times in the 'real world' are hires made based on friends and family, way more often then it happens here.

my biggest push back is suggesting that the 20 or so favour picks in the draft limit the opportunities for players. thats just bs. if the kid was any good, he would have pushed himself into the conversation before the 15th round started. its a crutch for dads to use, instead of just saying 'my kid was not good enough', they need to grab onto something. alot of the time its the coach, hell ive even heard a trainer blamed for why a kid didn't 'make it'.

what so wrong with saying 'kid did not do enough to push himself ahead of the others'. god forbid actually saying something that would push the kid to do better and not be a cop out and blame everyone else.

It’s not what you know but instead who you know. Unfortunate or not that applies to nearly every aspect of life. That will never change

to an extent, but honestly, its the 14-15th rounds where 20 kids are taken. imagine that your a aaa player and you are still waiting to be drafted at that stage? whose issue is that?

Both side are stupid in this scenario and in 95% of cases it doesn't matter.

Should a team be trying to take BPA instead of a favor and potentially miss out on an Andrew Mangiapane ? probably not.

Should a parent really be upset their 285th best player in ontario didn't get picked over a favor? I don't think so.

Yes teams miss good players and also yes almost every 15th round pick never amounts to anything, but the difference between getting drafted in the 15th round and going undrafted is next to nothing. If anything you get the opportunity to pick a team later on if you end up being a good player. The whole conversation here is really not important.

I mean, even 5th round picks are not a promise to do anything, mind you they obviously have a very good chance of making it.

what does this have to do with what I said exactly?
Because parents seem to think that being a 275th or whatever draft pick is a ticket to the OHL, when its not. Im sure there are plenty of parents and players who were drafted higher, say a 5th round pick, who assume right away they are golden, when they are not. Once the draft is done, everyone starts over. No one will sign someone just because they are a 5th round pick, they have to go out and earn a spot, no different then a 13th round pick or a walk on.

So the complaining is silly and dumb, nothing in hockey let alone the OHL is guaranteed.

they just want to brag to their friends and family about it.
