2009 10 HART Trophy Revisit

I think the first 30 games of the season were his best stretch:

Interesting! I don't know why I thought he started out slowly that year. I guess the Olympics skewed my memory.

The decisive factor in my vote for Henrik is the strength of the Western Conference vs the Eastern Conference at this time.

Western teams won 155 of 270 games against Eastern teams in 2009-10, or 57%. No Eastern team won more than 10 of 18 games against the West. 8 Western teams won 11-14 of their 18 games against the East.

Henrik led all scorers in the stronger conference by 21 points.

Id like to bump this thread because the narrative of the hart seems to have changed in only 15 years. Drai seems to be garnering everybodys votes right now due to him having by far the most goals between the top 3 scorers (kuch n mack) the less empty net points between them.

If the 2010 hart race was happening today seems crosby would be crowned. Also he had the biggest lead on points on the second leading scorer on his team. The most goals. The least amount of empty points. The most game winners. Was 8/10 in the shootout. Was 55% in the dot to sedins 48%. Had the highest % of points on his teams goals. Ovechkin missed 10 gp some due to suspension so his valuable argument is not there with 10 missed games. Seems to me crosby was robbed

121 pts teams, +45 Ovechkin, team with the best PP being a special power play weapon, 70% ev strength goal for season.

Would Sedin-Crosby just won the years before and he had zero (instead of going for 3 in a row), probably he would have.

Ovechkin was robbed . Maybe due to voters fatigue

He had a lot more support than Crosby with similar offensive numbers.

109 points on a team that scored 313 goals, Backstrom - 101 points, Green 84 points

109 points on a team that scored 249 points, Malkin 77 points, Gonchar 50 points

on a team that scored 313 goals,
We should always be cautious to "hurt" the offensive linchpin of a team that score a lot of goals during a season, one could say it the complete opposite, Ovechkin team scored 313 goals, Crosby team scored only 249 goals.

23 of those goals of difference were on the powerplay, despite the capitals having 13 less PPO that year, could it be Ovechkin lethal shot on the PP more valuable that year ? Or it Green > Gonchar, Backstrom >= Malkin and/or peak Semin being such a nice extra shooter to have.

Could be way better support, could be generating more offense, could be a mix.

Will you take this same logic next time you assess Ovechkin winning the 2013 Hart over Crosby?

Even if you are correct and the "narrative" surrounding the trophy has changed... how does that mean that Crosby was robbed? The trophy was given out in 2010, no other standard should be considered. I do think that the 2010 result was bad because the voters didn't give it to the most valuable player or to the best player, but it is not because of what media members of 2025 may think.

I think the best player was clearly Ovi, and the most “valuable” is up for debate but…

I think Sedin’s season here gets discounted a bit by people because he never had one quite as good again.

If I remember right he had the most even strength points in a single season since Jagr in like 96 or 97.
